18 THE RURAL VOICE
going back and finding the right one,
learning from your mistakes. "There
are different ways of walking a
labyrinth," says Nelly, "you can just
walk it or you can enjoy it as an
experience, as an enrichment for
yourself."
Hiking the maze is a fun way for
people to get exercise, Nelly says.
"Certainly you will get exercise if
you do all the things because even
though the labyrinth doesn't look
very big, as you get wallcing you will
be surprised." As they prepare for the
opening they'll figure out how long
the distance in the trails is, she says.
"Probably there will be a sign so
people know what they are getting
into."
Last year's maze was also an
educational experience for those who
don't come from the farm.
"Out here I think it was important
to show people who come from cities
what else there is to farming," Nelly
says. So they had displays on
different crops that could be grown.
Throughout the maze there were
different questions posted
about farming with four
possible answers, she explains.
Visitors could lift up a flap to find
the right answer.
This year the questions in the
maze will be more about the different
countries on the globe, she says.
As they tour the maze, people
may have questions about different
countries, Nelly explains. Many of
those answers might be available in
the displays inside the shed. "We
won't have every country but the
ones we can get material on we will
display."
The shed has a television where
people can view videos from Brazil,
India and Switzerland. There will
also be flags of the different
countries that people can familiarize
themselves with.
At the shed there will also be a
history of how labyrinths evolved.
The yard also offers play areas for
children. Last year a lot of people
liked to sit out in the yard by the
trees and have a picnic and let the
kids play, Nelly recalls. They sell
drinks and chips for snacks, staying
away from foods that would require
more regulations. People tended to
bring their own picnic lunches.
The new project has meant a lot of
