Presented on your favourite cookie
platter, store-bought cookies, squares
and chocolates take on a gourmet
flair.
Go for a "potluck" buffet style
dinner. (I've yet to attend a potluck
that wasn't incredible as far as quality
and quantity.) And request hors
d'oeuvres that do not require the
oven, one less hassle and the turkey
can cook merrily away.
If you are concerned that your
furnishings and decor are looking at
little tired, add pink -tinted light bulbs
to your fixtures, and gently dim the
lights. The ambiance created will be
oh so flattering and ever so gentle on
the appearance of your possessions.
Light and position multiple groups
of candles and you will effectively
create a charming and homey
atmosphere that everyone will find
irresistible. Incorporate a variety of
holiday scented candles, like spiced
apple, mulled cranberry, pine and
hollyberry (and Ward's favourite ...
clove scented), to further enhance the
holiday spirit.
Remember a card table or a desk
sporting a lovely white linen table
covering makes a beverage bar or
service table and allow guests to serve
themselves. Serve each person their
first beverage and then allow them to
"make themselves at home" — again,
much easier for everyone. Possibly
one of the delegates can be in charge
of entertainment — even something
as simple as a caravan of cars touring
the town taking in the decorations.
(This would be a great opportunity for
you as hostess to garner a few quiet
moments to regroup, while everyone
is out.) Or perhaps even some simple
board games or charades and of
course Christmas movie videos are
always a hit. I find even setting out
family photo albums can prove very
entertaining and great conversation
stimulators (this one is real popular in
our home). The more organized we
are the more cool and calm we'll
appear as hosts ... the more relaxed
we are the better time our guests will
have and that's what will make a
memorable Christmas!
Wishing you and yours, health,
happiness and harmony for the
holidays ... Patti.0
