Winch
Makes Skidding Logs as Easy as ...
1 2 3
The blade anchors the unit to
the ground preventing the
tractor from slipping backward
and takes the strain off the
tractor. The cable is easy to
pull out as the winch drum
free wheels easily.
The winch is operated
with a control rope from a
safe position on either
side of the unit.
The 3 -point linkage is
raised so the logs are 1-2
feet off the ground and the
logs are skidded to the
landing.

however, that only native species be
planted in or around woodlots.
Property owners, he says, should
avoid planting invasive species such
as Norway maple, and the trees
selected should be of a species that is
likely to thrive in the environment in
which they are be planted. Do not, for
example, plant black walnut,
butternut or American chestnut in a
shady place. They need full sun. But
sugar maple will grow in shade. Red
oak and white pine can handle drier
sites, and larch and cedar grow well
in wetter sites. Avoid planting red
pines in alkaline soil: they will not
likely survive.
Many Projects Elsewhere in.
Canada
Beth Girvan, London Coordinator
of the Our Millennium project,
provides some examples of projects
across Canada and in London. In
Calgary, park benches are being
provided by a book club, each in the
name of a person aged 100 or more,
with his or her name inscribed on a
plaque. In Ottawa, high school
students collected 2,000 pairs of
mittens and donated them to the
Coats for Kids campaign. In London,
the Marconi Club is preparing a
history of the Italian community's
contribution to the city.
"When your grandchildren ask
you about the momentous move from
one millennium to the next", Girvan
says, "wouldn't it be neat to tell them
how you, your neighbours and friends
took part in a special project to mark
the occasion".
