Be informed when signing natural gas storage and exploration leases
The subject of natural gas storage
and exploration leases has once again
come to the attention of the Huron
Federation of Agriculture.
Landowners have many questions
regarding their rights and what they
should or should not be signing.
Exploration and storage lease are
LEGAL documents, extremely
complicated and the terms are long
lasting — much longer than even the
best of marriages! As leases are legal
documents. we encourage review by
specialized legal counsel familiar
with such leases. Some of the more
common concerns that landowners
need to have addressed in the leases
surround the following:
• well water contamination
• tile drainage damage
• fence damage
• crop losses
• site restoration

We cannot emphasize enough that
these lease documents are legal
documents written by the lease
companies. Don't feel pressured to
sign. Talk with your neighbours to
see what they have been offered.
Seek information and advice. If your
property is truly important to the
company's plans, people will deal
with you in a professional manner.
As farmers you are sharp at
dealing with other businesses for
input costs, machinery and livestock.
be the same with land lease agents.
Please contact us if you have further
questions or concerns.°
