High calorie diets are essential
to the birds, "Songbirds don't
carry fat like a mammal or a
game bird and their only source of
warmth is the calories in the food
they are eating. It has to generate
enough body heat or they will die. It
is that clean cut," said Paul Bennett
who owns Mill Creek Seed Co. near
Paisley. He has been mixing seed and
researching bird behaviour for
decades. His own blends of high
quality birdseed have been on the
