As if they don't have enough
power. proposed international invest-
ment laws will give corporations
power over national governments.
We in Canada may vote for a
government to take control over some
situation but if that legislation harms
the profits of a foreign company, it
has the right to sue for compensation.
Every "advance" in technology
strengthens the power of mega-,
corporations. Even AgCare, which
sings the praises of biotech, recently
worried the secrets of the technology.
concentrated in too few hands, could
leave farmers at the mercy of
companies.
Kaplan calls corporations "hybrid
regimes" with chief executive
officers who make decisions like
dictators and can only be replaced if
they fail to make profits for their
shareholders.
And yet nobody is protesting as
democracy slips quietly away.0
