Decorating
visit came on Christmas night when
the girls treated Ward and I to a
coleche ride through New Orleans'
immense city park. Last year's theme
was entitled "Christmas Amongst the
Oaks". There amongst humongous,
century -old oak trees we were treated
to the most spectacular array of
Christmas finery I had ever beheld.
The trees literally dripped with mini -
lights fashioned into chandeliers,
garlands, swags, and Christmas balls
measuring 24" in diameter, and
amongst all this flew life-size angels
... I was a kid again!
We passed life-sized bayou
villages bustling with townsfolk in
preparation for Christmas festivities,
Cajun music providing stimulus for
dances and rowdy revelers — every
entertainer cajoling the passersby to
join in.
In a swampy inlet, there was Santa
and his sleigh being towed by 12
neon green alligators, accompanied
by candy pink -coloured crawfish.
There was a petting zoo amongst a
miniature village, each animal
sporting a wreath or decorative touch.
I cannot begin to tell you how
spectacular this Christmas
extravaganza was. I was spellbound
as we clippity-clopped along all
wrapped up in blankets. (My mind
still boggles to think of the man-hours
this project must have incorporated!)
Certainly, we made a few
sacrifices for a new Christmas
adventure. This season a return to the
traditional has been voted in by all
but me, (I personally loved not
worrying about meals, dishes and
making my bed for five days), but
who knows what next year will hold?
In the meantime here comes
Christmas once again! May purity of
joy, peace, health, happiness and
plenty be the gifts with which your
household is blessed. Have a good
one!O
