The Rural Voice, 2001-12, Page 5Cover Francine Peeler is in the Christmas spirit 365 days a year, especially when it comes to unwanted animals. From horses and donkeys to cats and dogs she has made a special effort to rescue animals in distress. Over the years she estimates she's rescued and found homes for 30 dogs, 300 cats, 38 horses and six donkeys — nearly 400 animalsyin all without support of any agency. Still, not all the stories have ended happily.
