18 THE RURAL VOICE
Above: Settlers combined the use of local logs and fieldstones to build
this early home located in Wellington County. Typical of British settlers,
the fieldstone kitchen is built out the back of the house. Now abandoned,
the downed T.V. antenna indicates this log house was occupied into the
late twentieth century.
Below: This early frame house located on the Talbot Trail in Kent County
shows the typical plain and symmetrical cnoices of the early United
Empire Loyalist settlers.
