stranded. I was about to add more,
but just then, my husband returned,
complaining about a sudden cramp in
his writing hand.
Without missing a beat, I quickly
grabbed the pencil and started jotting
down things that would come in
handy during a storm. A good supply
of bottled water, canned and dried
food, candles, matches, flashlights
and batteries would help see us
through. All that, and a new supply of
paper and pencils for those lists I
night want to make next spring.
Perhaps my approach was a trifle
overzealous, but with the weather
being what it is these days, a little
preparation can go a long way.
Besides, as I explained, it's awfully
nice to sit by the warmth of the fire,
on a frosty fall day, and know that,
before the snow flies, you'll be ready
for whatever challenges a country
winter may bring.
Now, if I could only explain that
wry smile on his face, after all the
pencils in our house mysteriously
disappeared...0
