With government pressure now coming on top of
public pressure for farmers to change their
practices to reflect concerns about the
environment, a new program in Huron County
has come along just in time for many farmers.
The county received $2.5 million from the Healthy
Futures Program to help farmers carry out
environmental
improvements for
everything from
capping wells to
building berms
and grassed
waterways. Some
hope this will be
the prototype for
future funding from
the province.

The idea of having the kids come home and join the farming
operation is attractive but making it work can be difficult. The
Robinsons of Vista Villa Farms at Walton show how it can
work with three sons taking various jobs in the 2500 -sow
production and breeding operation.
