Farm Line forms partnership with County Farm Stress Centre
The proY ince-wide Farm Line
which helps oaten -isolated farmers
and their families deal with job
and lifestyle related stress has
formed a funding and resources
support partnership with the
Stress Counselling Program
For Farm Families based in Perth -
Huron.
It's a natural linking." said Susan
Klein-Swormink of the Ontario Farm
Women's Network which administers
the Farm Line. "The Stress
Counselling Program has been doing
some good work with farmers in a
concentrated area and we're doing
similar work across the province
through our toll-free service. They
needed backup and we gage it to
them."
Klein-Swormink underlined the
tact the Farm Line will not be taking
over the local service which will
continue operating under its existing
name with' staff remaining in place:
"The Perth -Huron program has built
a good reputation since it opened up
during the 1998 pork crisis.
EYerybody inyolyed wants to
maintain that community profile."
Financially backed by several
agricultural and commodity groups,
the Farm Line sprung from Eastern
Ontario's devastating ice storm in
1998 when a temporary service was
provided. Funding eventually became
available to turn the Farm Line into a
full-time, province -wide. toll-free
