Marilyn Murray. the past
president of the Grand River
Foundation, was recently presented
with one of the new hybrid 'strains,
which the GRCA has named the
"Murray Chestnut" in her honour.
The Foundation plans to have
several native tree species for sale at
the Show, including the American
Sweet Chestnut. They will also be
presenting information on rural water
quality programs.
While there is much to learn from
watching demos and talking to
exhibitors. the Family Program offers
a change of pace, and a chance to sit,
listen and learn from an exciting line-
up of speakers.
Headlining the Family Program
at the Show are three guest
speakers, covering topics
from gardening to farm financial
planning to the future of agriculture.
Jennifer Moore, a gardening
columnist and lecturer. will speak
twice a day on "Gardening ideas for
the inside and out." She will discuss
which plants are best for specific
situations and offer tips on how to
keep them looking their best.
Dr. Gord Surgeoner, president of
Ontario Agri -Food Technologies,
will talk about what's in store for the
future of Ontario agriculture, and the
importance of looking beyond
tradition to new markets such as
medicine and biodiesels.
Farm financial specialists Ross
and Eve Daily, will offer advice on
transferring the farm to the next
generation. "Surveys indicate that
few farm families have a succession
plan," says Mr. Daily.0
