chance to learn how it's planted and
what the plants look like compared to
conventional crops.
"Many farmers know about the
process of growing seed corn, but
many have not seen how the plants
can look different. The inbred parent
lines are not typically strong, robust
plants," says Jim Olmstead. Hyland
Seeds. "Growing seed corn is an
interesting but complicated process
and we look forward to showing.
farmers how it's done at the Show."
The Seed Corn Growers of
Ontario will also be on -hand at the
demo to answer questions and help
tell the fascinating story of seed corn
production.
The Organic Expo will be back
again for year two. Last year, the
Expo was a success, housing 13
exhibitors and attracting thousands of
interested visitors over the three
days. It's expected that the Expo will
be even more informative and
educational this year.
Many of the exhibitors are
returning for this year's
Organic Expo to showcase
a variety of new organic products and
markets. Some new faces are also
expected. Larry Lenhardt, CEO of
the OCPP says they're hoping to
have a compost turner and
demonstration set up for the Expo.
"We weren't disappointed with
last year's show. In fact, we had
some positive new entries into
organic production because of
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show," says
Lenhardt. "It's good to be a part of
mainstreet agriculture." ,
The livestock section will be
bigger than ever this year. The new
exclusive livestock area will include
the Beef Expo and three new expos
— the Cover -All Dairy Expo, the
Swine Expo and the Sheep/Goat
Expo. A number of live
demonstrations will be held daily,
and exhibitors will be on -hand to
showcase their latest technologies
and equipment.
Land O'Lakes will be the anchor
sponsor of the new exclusive
livestock area. They will be
announcing several new products at
the Show this year. And they're also
hosting the Land O'Lakes Lookout,
where visitors can socialize and
enjoy corn fed beef and other foods
in the catering area.
