Iroquoian legend tells how
maple syrup was discovered. It is
told that a Chief Woksis hurled his
tomahawk into a maple tree for the
night. He removed in the next
morning and headed off. On this
early March day the weather
warmed up and sap dripped into a
vessel below.
His wife, in her cleverness
looked to save an extra trip for
water and to waste not, tasted the
sap water and decided to use it to
boil the night's dinner. So it goes
that she was the first to taste
maple syrup, and the one to
forever combine ingenuity and
maple syrup. The rest is history.0
