Royal Commission on Divorce
Asked for by B&P Women
Highlighting a meeting with
Prime Minister Diefenbaker
last month, six delegates of The
Canadian Federation of Business
and Professional Womdn's Clubs
headed by their president, Miss
Elsie Gregory MacGill, asked
Mr. Diefenbaker to appoint a
Royal Commission on Divorce.
Mrs, Beryl Darling, who pre-
sented the subject, pointed out
that federal and provincial acts
dealing with divorce are out-
dated, out-moded and do not
represent the attitudes of Can-
adian citizens of 1962. This is
also true of the Canadian Di-
vorce Jurisdiction Act of 1930.
The Federation strongly supports
an amendment of this Act to
give men and women equality
of civil rights and to allow the
married woman the same right
to establish an independent
domicile as the man and the un,
married woman.
Of vital interest to the work-
ing woman was the request that
the federal Department of Lab-
our extend its studies of pen-
sions for women to include port-
able pensions and contributory
pensions and contributory pen-
sions. The delegations also
