R, Farrier Receives Life Membership) W HITECHURCH--Tbe of the United Church here, held its postponed meeting at the home of Mrs. Ezra Scholtz on Monday afternoon, with twenty ladies present and with Mrs. Russell Gaunt of the North group presiding and, giving the call to worship, using the carols in their service. Mrs. E. H. Groskorth read the Scripture lesson, the Christ- mas hristmas story from Luke. Mrs. Ben McClenaghan read a re- port of the year's work of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McClena- ghan at the Southampton Indian Mission. She said they had moved into a new manse. Mrs. G. C. Mitchell gave a reading of the story of the Bethlehem birth, and also read a letter from Mr. and Mrs. Tonge, missionaries from Hong Kong, who are home for their vaca- tion. Mrs. Claude Coffin and Mrs. Dan Tiffin sang, "Silver Bells", with Mrs. G. E. Farrier as accompanist. Mrs. Millan Moore had charge of the Bible study in the new study book, " The Word and the Way", which tries to clarify the beliefs of the Christian people, and compares the different ideas, yet similar, of Moses and Buddha. Mrs. J. D. Beecroft led in prayer. Mrs. Moore presided for the business meeting. The roll call was answered by naming a carol. Mrs. Albert Coultes, treasurer, reported that the allocation had been met. Mrs. W. R. Farrier, who had cele- brated her 83rd birthday last week, was presented with a Life Certificate and pin for her Christmas gift from her family Mrs. Dowling, who moved re- cently to Mount Forest sent a "thank you" letter for the re- membrance she had received from the group. Mrs. Clarence Ritchie re- ported for the leaders of the Messengers, showing the new pins for the members of their group. The evening was spent in games with prizes being won by George Higgins, Miss Dorothy Higgins, Robert Higgins, Mrs. Douglas Machan and Miss Linda 'Machan, for the youngest mem- ber present, Before lunch an address was read to Mr. and Mrs. Procter by Robert Higgins, which was signed on behalf of the neigh- bours by Jack Wickstead and Gordon Higgins. The couple was presented with a chair and a footstool, after which they both made very fitting replies. Jim Robinson was chairman for the program. Carols were sung at the beginning. Rev. C. W. Lewis gave an address and the junior classes sang "Away in a Manger". Joyce Chamney gave a recitation. Rev. Lewis 'showed a film. The senior classes sang, "Joy to the World" and Robbie Har- kes gave a recitation. An- other film was shown. Carols were sung and Mr. Lewis closed with prayer.
