LAKELET—The December
meeting of the McIntosh U,C,W .
was held in the church base-
ment on Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Jack Inglis was in charge
of the devotional period and
led in prayer. Roll call was
"A Christmas Thought".
The annual reports of the
committees were read. A
brief business period was con-
ducted by the President and
Rev. H. Pace conducted the -
election of officers with the
following results:

Demonstration
LAKELET—The December
meeting of the W. L was held
on Thursday evening in the
Institute Hall with a good at-
tendance. The president, Mrs.
Cliff Hallman opened the meet-
ing with the opening exercise.
Devotions were read by Mrs.
C. Scott.
The theme of the meeting
was citizenship and the roll
call was "One way I can show
my appreciation for the privii-
age of Canadian citizenship".
Mrs. Arlo Eickmier presented
the motto "Love is the best as-
surance toward world peace."
Guests of the meeting were
the 4-11 club girls and they
were introduced by the club
leader, Mrs. Lloyd Jacques. A
demonstration on "Potatoes in
Fancy Dress", was given by
Carol Ann Hohnstien and Jan-
ette Wright.
The topic "Christmas Cus-
toms in Canada" was given by
Mrs. Lyle Murray, telling of
the origins of many different
Christmas customs. Mrs. Har-
old Wallace gave a demonstra-
tion on making Christmas
wreaths. This was followed by
an exchange of Christmas gifts
and carol singing.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Lloyd Jacques, Mrs. Jake
Versteeg and Mrs. E. Ferguson.

held at the close of the meet-
ing with a wonderful selection
of homemade baking and
Christmas items. Lunch was

Club at Achievement Day at
Wingham were the names of
Carol Ann Hohnstien and Louise
McComb, who also received
their 2nd year certificates.
We are sorry to report that
Mrs. Ernest Wylie is confined
to bed and under the doctor's
care. We hope she will soon
be able to be up and about
again.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Heim-
becker and family of Neustadt
visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Elmer Greenly on Sunday.
Mr. Eldon Dennis spent Sat-
urday in London, having a
check-up on his arm.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright
and family visited with Mr. and
Mrs. G. McKee on Sunday.
Miss S. Sparling
Dies in Toronto
A former resident of Wingham
Miss Sarah Cordelia Sparling,
died on Tuesday, November
27th in Toronto, where she had
lived since leaving here in 1916.
She was in her 89th year.
Miss Sparling was the daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.
G. Sparling, who resided on
Minnie Street. She was in the
first graduating class of the Tor-
onto Conservatory of Music and
was a teacher of music in Lon-
don and Wingham before mov-
ing to Toronto.
She is survived by her niece,
Mrs. E. Horne' Craigie of Tor-
onto and her nephew, Frank
Sparling of Oshawa. Interment
was in the family plot in Wing -
ham cemetery.

Unit 3 of United Church
Women met in the Sunday
School room for a social even-
ing in the form of a pot -luck
supper, planned by Mrs. Gary
Gibson. Christmas carols were
sung and Mrs. Jack Gorrie gave
a reading, "Do It Now." Mrs.
Murray MacLennan, president
of the UCW was a guest.
A talk and film by Alan
Williams on the care of the
eyes was most interesting. Mrs.
Gibson thanked Mr. Williams
on behalf of the unit, and pre-
sented him with a gift, Mrs,
Gerrie presided fora short bus-
iness session. Plans were made
for the general meeting of UCW
on December 12th when Unit 3
will be in charge of the worship
service. All ladies are asked to
coni, to this meeting. The
meeting c10sed with the belie-
d diction.

Lodge held its annual meeting
in Wingham on December 4th.
All ten lodges in the county
were represented and each re-
ported a successful year's work.
The meeting voted donations
to the True Blue and Orange
Children's Home, Salvation
Army, and Wingham Retarded
Children's School,
Plans are being made to
have the Most Worshipful Mas-
ter and Sovereign of British
America, George Warren of St.
John's, Newfoundland, visit a
meeting of the Lodge during
1963.
