W. Mrs. A. Donald- son read the Scripture and Mrs, William Campbell offered prayer. The secretary, Mrs. H. Wal, lace, gave the report for the year and the treasurer, Miss M. McElwain gave a very encour- aging financial report. The program, convened by Present Skit at Myth Meeting FORDWICH--Achievement Day for the W.I. members tak- ing the meat course "143 lbs. of meat" was held in Blyth Hall December 6, when the Fordwich W. I. presented the skit, "A Farmyard Fantasy", with the commentator, Mrs. S. Bride, and butcher, Mrs. Clare , Harris, Two neighbours shop- ping were Mrs. H. Harris and Mrs. C. Sotheran. Animals were Mrs. A. Demerling, Mrs. S. Johnston, Mrs. S. Clarkson. Chorus, Miss Minnie McElwain, Mrs. Geo. Richards and Mrs. William Campbell. Pauline Sothern Is CNA Graduate FORDWICH--Miss Pauline Sothern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sothern, was among the 19 nurses who graduated last week at the Wingham Hos- pital as Certified Nursing Assis- tants. Ashton, Mrs. Wm. Wilson and Mrs. Robert Gibson took the form of a candle light- ing ceremony depicting the theme, "His Constant Lamp" Those tatting part as leaders were Mrs, Ashton and Mrs, Wil- son; Burma was represented by Mrs, Robt. Gibson; Korea, Mrs. li. Wallace; 1-iong Kong, Mrs. C. Carswell; Canada, Mrs. G. Pittendreigh. Mrs. Robt. Gibson gave the Christmas story. Mrs. Jack Wilson rendered a solo "O Come All Ye Faithful". Carols were sung. Lunch was served by Mrs. Jack Wilson, Mrs, B. Agla and Mrs. 13. Mc- Dermitt. Extinguish Fire FORDWICH--Quick efforts on the part of neighbours saved the home of Everett Armstrong on Monday morning. A chim- ney fire broke out early but it was soon under control. Some smoke and water damage was caused. The farm home is situated on the 6th concession 21- miles east of Fordwich. Wm. G. Vittie Was 66 Years FORDWICH—A former resi- dent of Howick Township, Wil- liam Gordon Vittie of R. R, 1 Wainfleet, died on Sunday, December 2, after suffering a heart attack. He was in his 66th year. Mr. Vittie was a farmer all his life. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Vit - tie of Howick and he was mar- ried to Jennie Cathers, who survives. Other survivors are a daugh- ter Eileen (Mrs. Jim Gilmore) of Niagara Falls and six sons, Arnold and Gordon of Dane City, Alex of Wainfleet, Wes- ley of Hamilton, Donald of Port Colborne and Ronald of Wainfleet. A son predeceased him twelve years ago. There are two brothersJames of Fordwich and Cleve of the 12th concession of Howick; two sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Hill of Clifford and Miss Lily Vittie of Howick, and 13 grandchild- ren, A sister, Mrs. Clare(Etta) Pritchard and a brother, Tom Vittie of Howick predeceased him. Mr. Vittie was a member of the Anglican Church. Service was on December 5 from the Fenwick funeral home with in- terment in Zion Cemetery. WROXETER Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman had as her guests for the week -end Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilson and Dale of Port Rowan and Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Hoffman and Mr, and Mrs. Elmer Johnston, Clinton, spent Sunday at the same home, the occasion being Mrs. Hoffman's birthday. Con- gratulations and many more. Mrs. Alex Wright spent last week with Mr. and Mrs, Gor- don Greig, Petrolia. Mr. and Mrs. Aylmer Hart, Brussels were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Alonzo Sparling and Miss Hazel Sparling. Mr, and Mrs. George San- derson were pleasantly surprised Saturday evening when neigh- bours, friends and relatives called to wish them well on their 25th wedding anniversary. They were the recipients of lovely gifts and cards and the evening was spent in card play-, ing and social chat. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Doig visi- ted their sons, Lorne of Drayton and Malcolm of St. Jacob's. Mrs. Doig spent a couple of days in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wylie spent Sunday with relatives in Toronto and Mrs. Wylie re- mained for a week's visit. Mr. Sill Higgins was home from Brantford for the week- end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Stewart Higgins. Rev. A. C. Coles conduct- ed the dedication service on Sunday morning and Mrs. Glenn Johnston took part in the unveiling. Ladies' Night at Fordwich Lodge FORDWICH—The annual ladies night and banquet of Fordwich Masonic Lodge A. F. and A.M. No. 331 was held Friday night in the community hall with over 100 attending. R. S. Hetherington of Wingham was guest speaker. Rt. Wor. Bro. Calvin Krauter of Brussels, district deputy, and Rt. Wor. Bro. Jack Ferguson of Clifford were among the guests. Elmer Farrish of Gorrie showed slides of his recent trip to Europe. Ladies of St. Anne's Guild of Fordwich catered. and Mrs. Richard Ingram. Miss Hazel Sparling visited Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Robertson in Goderich on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. W. Weir, Miss Gertrude Bush and Mrs. George Gibson accompanied her and spent the day with Mrs, Allister Green. Mrs. Weir remained for a longer visit.
