Liens and Sons Enjoy Banquet
Members of the Wingham
Lions Club and their sons, or
son -aged guests, were out in
full force last Tuesday eve-
ning for a dinner in the base-
ment of the United Church.
The delicious meal was served
by ladies of the church. Sion
President Murray MacLennan
presided and Rev. C. M. Jar-
dine, minister of the church
asked the blessing. Lions Bill
Conron and Hap Swatridge
were in charge of the music

Correspondence included 'a
letter from the Wingham and
District Retarded Children's
Association requesting funds to
assist with the Golden Circle
School project. The matter
was left with the club's direc-
tors for decision.
It was announced that the
annual sale of peanut$ will be
held next Tuesday evening,
December 11th, and all Lions
are asked to meet at Charlie
Hodgins' garage at six o'clock.
The club members will follow
the usual procedure of calling•
at all the homes in town, of-
fering peanuts, mixed nuts
and peanut butter,
Lion Ross Hamilton intro-
duced Earl Heywood, who pre-
sented a most enjoyable pro-
gram of music. Lion Hap
Swatridge showed a Laurel and
Hardy movie which brought
rounds of laughter from both

In one of the Bell Telephone
pictures in last week's issue we
'were unable to identify all
people in the picture. Mrs.
Walter VanWyck recognized
Peter Tansley, seated, who
was the manager and the boy
was his son, Stewart.
Miss Carrie Cody and MisS
Pearl Moore were the operators.
Colin A, Campbell, whom
we erroneously believed to be
the man seated at the desk,
was a druggist and Mrs. Van-
Wyck says the telephone office
was located in his store,
fathers and sons.
Lion "Casey" Casemore ex-
pressed thanks to the enter-
tainers and Lion Bud Cruick-
shank voiced appreciation to
the ladies for the excellent
meal. '
Bridge Club Visits Goderich
Twenty*eight members of
the Wingham Bridge Club spent
a most enjoyable evening last
Thursday as guests of the God-
erich Club, at a bridge match
and luncheon in the Bedford
Hotel. Sorne of the regular
Goderich players were absent
and the result of the match was
decisively in favor of the local
club by the score of 2082 to
1740. The leading pairs were:
North and south: first, Mr.
and Mrs. K. Hunter (G) 1871;
second, Mrs. R, H, Lloyd and
Miss Y. McPherson (W) 1831;
third, Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
Crawford (W) 1571; fourth,
Mrs. R. Dundas and 0. Hasel-

A, Parker and Mrs. D. B. Por-
