Fire Hall
On Saturday evening the fire-
men and their wives held a
social Christmas pot luck sup-
per, with turkey and all the
trimmings. Norm Cronkwright
and his committee should go
into the catering business.
Captain Stanley Newman of
the Salvation Artny was guest
speaker, introduced by Chief
James Carr. The theme of his
words of wisdom was commun-
ity service, as related between
the department and the Salva-
tion Army. When the firemen's
work ends, his work begins for
the persons who need help to
get re-established after a dis-
aster. .loth organizations are
on the job to help those who
need assistance, not only at a
fire but in all cases of ewer-
gency. Captain Newman was
thanked by Dave Crothers for
his talk and being one of the
firemen with his help and
friendship at all firemen's ac*
tivities during his time in
Wingham.

Seagrave Cubs
Twenty-six Cubs and four
leaders of the lst. Belgrave
Cub Pack met for their regular
meeting in the Community
Centre. The meeting opened
with the Grand Howl with
Akela (Mrs. Ken Wheeler) in
charge. This was followed by
the Cub prayer.
Tawny Six again had the
most points during inspection
and their pennant was placed
on the totem pole. Each six
drew a poster about St. Andrew
for St. Andrew's Day and the
black six made the best poster.
Raksha (Mrs. Clare Van -
Camp) read a story called
"Playing the Game" and games
were led by Bagherra (Mrs.
Gordon McBurney). ,A new
chum, Robert White was wel-
comed. The meeting closed
with Taps. Next meeting will

On Sunday, December 2,
we presume all telephone users
were getting some practise at
winding the dial. At least one
person was having some diffi-
culty. The fire phone rang
and upon informing the person
this was the fire department,
the party quickly hung up. The
third time the phone rang the
lady informed us she did not
want the firemen but was hav-
ing difficulty getting her party,

It may be a good thing for
all town and rural parties ser-
ved by the Wingharn Brigade to
have the fire call numberpos-
ted at your phone. "FIRE CALL
ONLY" 357-2131.

With winter sure to come,
now would be a good time to
check stove pipes, chimneys
and other fire hazards around
your property. This weather
can't last all year! We have
seen and corrected some con-
ditions and hope other people
don't have the same around
their homes. If in doubt con-
tact the fire department and
we will do our best to assist
.you in any way possible.

We wonder if some drivers
have ever read or heard of the
Highway Traffic Act?? On
Sunday evening,, while going
to the fire on the corner of
Centre and Alfred Streets, one
fire truck was prevented from
getting to the scene by a driver
cutting in front of the truck and
not pulling to the side of the
road upon hearing the siren.
At the fire drivers were going
over the hose with no regard to
damage or cutting off of water
supply.

In future, any driver found
impeding the progress or hinder-
ing the operation of firemen,
will find their license number
taken and charges under the
Traffic Act and Fire Marshals
Act, placed through the proper
channels.
