Dear Barry and Bob:
Congratulations on your first
offset -produced edition. It was
really excellent from every
aspect. I sort of felt like a
godfather, anxiously awaiting
to see what the offspring was
going to turn out to be, and I
was truly delighted at the
beautiful job, particularly when
many of the processes were
comparatively new to you.
We "old" offset people will
certainly have to look to our
laurels now, and I predict that
within a year The Advance
Times will be winning all the
newspaper competition trophies.
I am sure your advertisers

truly excellent pictures, illus-

you will now be giving them,

I particularly liked your
new color advertising, the
clean-cut new heading on
your front page, your pictures,
and the general over-all clear
reproduction of the whole pa-
per.
You may be assured our
whole staff examined your pa-

unanimous in giving it the
highest praise. Keep up the
good work.
Kindest regards,

Dear Barry and Bob:
Jim Young brought me back
a copy of your first edition
printed by offset -lithography.
He was most enthusiastic about
it, and, on looking it over
carefully myself, I cannot fail
to share his feelings.
It is an outstanding produc-
tion and one that you both can
be very proud and happy about,
although I shudder to think of
the problems you have had to
overcome and all the extra
work and effort you have had
to face in getting the final

wonderful results.
This is a long step forward
for you, and I noticed that
our own London Free Press
featured your accomplishment
in an editorial last evening.
They are a pretty fair news-
paper too, I believe you will
agree, and the fact that they
would point out your accom-
plishment in an editorial is a
real indication of the impact
your new paper has had.
It has been a thrill to us
here to see what you have been
able to do, and we extend our
congratulations to you both in
attaining the somewhat drama-
tic and certainly outstanding re-
sults in this comparatively
new field of newspaper produc-
tion.
Sincerely yours,

ON THEIR TOES
There is frequent evidence
of the progressive attitude of
publishers of weekly newspapers
in Western Ontario. For its
November 15th edition The
Wingham Advance -Times used
an offset -lithograph press for
its publication with improved
photographic quality and great-
er clarity of type.
Experiment has been made
on this type of printing and in
short or moderate run news-
papers the process has been
found successful. The Blen-
heim News -Tribune initiated
the plan in this district. The
Wingham newspaper now has
adopted the system with quite
evident success. — London
Free Press.
MAJOR CHANGES AFOOT
In the world of weekly news -
papering, changes continually
take place across the Dominion,
and those of the industry keep a
close watch at the changing
scene. This is comparable to
jewellery store owners knowing
who is in their kind of business
in Orillia or Fredericton and to
clothing merchants knowing
who is in the same business a
hundred miles away.
Just within our own county,
major changes are taking place
in weekly newspapers. At
Wingham, after years of hav-
ing presswork done in the plant
at Listowel, the Wenger Bro-
thers have changed the entire
style of their paper, to an off-
set (or photographic) process,
and are doing all the work in
their own plant. The result is
a very readable, well -printed
and lovely weekly newspaper.
Our congratulations are sincere.

A WIRE FROM ELMIRA, ONT.
Congratulations on your first
offset newspaper. It is a fine
effort both from the reproduc-
tion obtained and the illustra-
tions. The Advance -Times
readers will appreciate the ef-
fort, time, and thought the
management has put into the
new plant. The local paper
will reflect more truly than
ever before the progressiveness
of its community, its people
and industry. Sincere wishes
for your future progress and suc-
cess. The Elmira Signet, E.C.
Davis, president,

'Dear Mr. Wenger:
I have just received my copy
of your Wingham Advance -
Times dated November 15th,
1962.
You and your associates are
to be congratulated on the new
process now being used in your
publication. It definately
shows progressive and construc-
tive planning and thought.
There is no doubt in my
mind that your subscribers will
be delighted with this forward
step.
Yours truly,

Gentlemen:
May I add my sincere con-
gratulations for the very fine
copy of your NEW paper just
received. This is something of
which all we Winghamites can
be justly proud.
Having a slight idea of
what you fellows have been
going through during the last
couple of years, seeing some of
the installations and adjust-
ments and intricate settings re-
quired, I have been waiting
with much anticipation to see
the first issue, and I am thrill-
ed and very pleased to see
what you have accomplished.
To me this is progressive
thinking in action and I ex-
tend my very best wishes and
hope to see even greater things
in the future. You are now
competitive with the big daily
press.
Very Sincerely,
R. E. McKinney
