Are Ethiopians
Semitic?
Ethiopian legends claim that
the Biblical Ark of the Coven-
ant was brought from Jerusalem
by a descendant of Solomon and
the Queen of Sheba and depos-
ited in the ancient church of
Aksum, holy city of Ethiopia.
Many ancient obelisks still stand-
ing at Aksum appear to be con-
nected with Semitic sun worship.
Hamilton Man
St, Paul's Speaker
Donald Clark of Hatxi.ilton, a
member of Grace Anglican
Church and active worker in
the Gideons International in
Canada, was the speaker at St.
Paul's Church on Sunday morn-
ing,
Mr. Clark mentioned that
every grade 5 pupil across Can-
ada is presented with a New
Testament from the Gideons
and that the local camp looks
after grade 5 students in 60
schools.
He spoke of his personal ex-
perience as a Gideon in present
ing the New Testaments, and
read several letters received
from recipients and teachers.
Bibles are also placed in
hotel and motel rooms.
The world wide ministry, of
the Gideons, a Christian Lay-
men's organization, extends to
55 countries with the total dis-
tribution of Scriptures exceed-
ing 45, 000, 000 copies.
In Canada, the society was'
organized in 1911. There are
only eight paid workers --five
in head office and three field
workers —, all other members
being volunteers, so that mo-
ney contributed goes directly
to the distribution of the Scrip-
tures.
Rev. C. F. Johnson, rector,
conducted the service.
