Ethiopian legends claim that the Biblical Ark of the Coven- ant was brought from Jerusalem by a descendant of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and depos- ited in the ancient church of Aksum, holy city of Ethiopia. Many ancient obelisks still stand- ing at Aksum appear to be con- nected with Semitic sun worship. The world wide ministry, of the Gideons, a Christian Lay- men's organization, extends to 55 countries with the total dis- tribution of Scriptures exceed- ing 45, 000, 000 copies. In Canada, the society was' organized in 1911. There are only eight paid workers --five in head office and three field workers —, all other members being volunteers, so that mo- ney contributed goes directly to the distribution of the Scrip- tures.
