Mr, Kenneth Coultes of Lakefield spent the week -end at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes. Mr, and Mrs. Keith Mont- gomery and children of Wing - ham spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Jamieson. Mrs. Irene Paterson of Tor- onto spent the week -end with her brother, Mr. Chas. Taylor. Their mother, Mrs. Win. Tay- lor left Wingham Hospital on Thursday and went to spend the winter at the Walkerton home, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dirs- tein of Toronto spent the week, end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Russell Gaunt, and Don- ald Gaunt, who spent the past week in Toronto, returned home, Mr, Alex McKenzie of Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Currie and family visi- ted on Sunday at the Gaunt home. Miss Kathleen O'Malley, nurse -in -training in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. O'Malley. The United Church Sunday School will hold their Christ- mas concert on Friday, Dec- ember 21, and the WhiteGift service on the Sunday before. The Bible Society has made plans for collections in the district this week. Janet and Donna, children of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Why - tock, have been quite ill this week -end with measles. Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw and children and Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Scholtz visited on Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Scholtz of Goderich. Mr, Wt -s, A, Purdon, Carey and Janine have been taking. the rabies serum for the past two weeks, after a rabid house' Gat attaeked them, Mr. Murray Gaunt spent a few days last week in Toronto, Miss Elaine Conn and Miss Karen Groskorth of Toronto spent the week -end at their respective homes here. Miss Florence Moir of Tor- onto spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Jas Richardson, and all visited with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Savage of Moles- worth on Saturday. Misses Barbara and Jean Campbell of London spent the week -end with Mrs. Robert Ross, and Mrs. Ross accom- panied them back to London, to spend a few days there this week. The trustees of S. S, No, 9, Kinloss, have installed an oil- furnace in the school this fall and have decided to seal the Woodshed that is connected with the school. Scholarship to Huron Students GODERICH—Varna and Hen- sall students have won Huron County scholarships at the Uni- versity of Western Ontario, county council was advised at its November session by Regis- trar J. K. Watson. He listed Mark Bender, Varna, and Miss E. Jane Horton, of Hensel'. "Mr. Bender," the letter stated, "is now registered inthe third year Honors Arts, and had an average of 85% on his last year's work. Miss Horton's gen- eral average was 75% in her • second, year Honors French and Latin. " There are three other stu-' dents from Huron county on the Dean's honors list: John D. Aber - hart of•Goderich, with 'an aver- age of 80%, is now registered in the fourth year of the Honors Science program; William K. Marshall of Kirkton, currently in third -year Honors Arts, had an average of 76% last year, and John E. Hall, R. R. 3, Ailsa Craig, stood first in his class in Law last year and is currently in his third year at Law School. "On behalf of the University may I express our thanks for the encouragement and support you give students such as these." Baby's Christening Dress Was Made by Great Grandmother Mr. and Mrs. James Hele- sic of Goderich had their baby daughter, Marijo, baptized at the Sunday morning service at St. Paul's Anglican Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Elliott were the godparents and Rev. C. F. Johnson officiated, She wore the same dress that her grandfather, Harry Town, wore at his christening and it was made by his mother the late Mrs. George Town of Wroxeter. After the church service din- ner was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Town. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hudson of Pal- merston, Mr. and Mrs. Rich- ard Sanderson of Stratford and Mrs. Frank Helesic of Goder- ich. Present Awards To Pioneer Girls The second encampment of Pioneer Girls was held in Wing - ham Baptist Church on Friday evening when mothers and "Pals'' were guests. The theme song was sung by all groups at the opening of the program, with Faye Praetor as pianist. The Key verse, Psalm 119:105 was recited by the Pil- grim group as Cathy Miller gave the salute. A short mes- sage on this verse was given by Mrs. Donald Sinclair. Pat Hotchkiss, Ruth Sinclair and Audrey Collar, as a trio, sang " This World Is Not My Home" . A missionary play, written and presented by the Explorer group was enjoyed. Presentation of achieve- ment awards to 29 Pilgrims, the group of girls from grades 3 to 6 in public school, was made by the guides, Mrs, George Hotchkiss and Mrs. Bruce MacLean. Categories for these included Bible, mis- sions, sight-seeing, garden, kitchen craft, handcraft, watery nature, song and book badges. Five rank badges were liresent- ed for Voyager and Settler ranks. Eight of the Colonist group, grades 7 to 9 with Mrs. Frank Collar as guide, received bad- ges for service, food arts, Bible and missions. Three rank awards included Pathfind- er and Homesteader. The senior group, Explorers from grade 10 and up received several group awards. In Bible group one girl received survey achievement, four for doctrine and one for church history. In science, two were pre- sented with animal achieve- ment badges and one with an arts craft award. One girl re- ceived an award for Clothing in the personal group, two won the swimming award in out- door life and one for advance Swimming. and one was pre- rented with Bible teaching a- ward in the leadership group. Two bronze Keys were pre- sented to Pioneer Girls who had completed four different achievements, Mrs. Richard Kilpatrick is the guide for the Explorers.
