Isas from London, Eng,latal,
the BBC and Starring Dave
King, one of the biggest names in
Eneleel musical.comesty. 1ielliV111-
bor when he was Perry Como's re
th et:&,. years ago on the
Rraft Music Hall on NBC? 11-
uti the lig hit of the season, and
completely unknown in America
before that time. He is still as fun..
ny as ever, and has a nice valve
that sounds a great deal like that
of Bing Crosby. I thought yoa
might be interested to know that
he is very much the star back in
'jolly old England'. As far as, I'm
eoncerned, he can come back our

Jerry Lewis, who is in my esti
/nation the best comedian of his
kind, and is definitely mit- of the
richest has been tendered a new
offer. Last month he made a guest
ppearance un the, "Tonight" show
from New York for a week.
This is u late-night 90 -minute
tint that is on five nights a week
un an American network. Since
Jack Paar left in the spring, spec-
ial guest hosts have taken his place
fur a week at a time. It is com-
pletely unrehearsed, and mostly
talking, about anything and every-
thing, the host chatting aimlessly
with his guests. Apparently every-
one figured that. Jerry was 'some
kind of a nut' and was standing
behind the door when the brains
%vetspassed out. They were pleu.
sandy surprised! He showed them,
that he could talk about almost
anything and do it intelligently,
that he had many ideas of his own
and was nut afraid .to express
them. At the end of the week more
mail than even the controversial
Pear had drawn, flowed into the
studios. The following week, he
was offered, and get this, $35,000,-
000. (No, we haven't goofed on the
zeros, that is 35 million/ for host-
ing such a series for a period of 18
months. This comes to roughly
two million dollars a month, which
really isn't too rough at all! A lot
of us could have a fairly nice life
on that. At last report he wasn't
sure if he was going to accept the
offer. Is he kidding?? If he does.
though, it should be a mad 18
months and well worth seeing as
long as we don't have to pay him!
