On Thursday night they play off to determine the bowler of the year, A -banquet will be held on May 24 at Marriner's Bowling Lanes, when the trophy will be presented, MISS ALICE EDGAR LAST OF FAMILY GORRIE-- :[91c death occurred on Friday, May 4th, in St. Cathar- ines Hospital, of Alice Margaret Elizabeth Edgar, daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs. Robert Edgar of Orange Hill. She was 87 years of age and was the last of her family of seven brothers and one sister. She had been in failing health for more than two years. Born in Huntingdon, Quebec. she received he r education there. When a young woman she came with her parents to live on lot 14, con. 10, Howiok, where the greater part of her life was spent. After the death of her brother, Fred, she made her home with a nephew and niece, Mr. Edgar Sheppard and Miss Alice Sheppard in St. Cathar- ines. She was a, member of the former Orange Hill United Church, a Sun- day School teacher and a life mem- ber of the W.M.S. of the Garde Un- ited Church. Surviving are several nephews and nieces. The funeral service was held in the Moir funeral home at 2 p.m. on Monday. May 7th, conducted by the Rev. Fred Taylor, pastor of the Gorric United Church. Interment was in the Gorrie cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman Wade, Norman Harding, Gerald Galbraith, GeorgeGalbraith, Wellesley Strong and Edward David. Y UGHAN DOUGLAS ADDRESSES W. I. GORRZE — Mrs. Morley Johnson was hostess for the April meeting of the Carrie Women's Institute when the roll call "My Favorite Job on the Farm" was answered by 16 members and three guests. Mrs. Gladstone Edgar introduced the speaker, Vaughan Douglas, of CKNX, who spoke on "Agriculture and the Farmer's Job as a Farmer," He told of Dr. Helen Able, the only woman member 'of the 'Federated Agriculture Board and quoted her sayings. Mr. Douglas stated that the ;farmer's cash income for 1961 increased over 3%. A large nuanber of future leaders will come from the farm and it is also a privilege to live in Canada. The Women's Institute upholds a lot of Canadian principles, he said. Mr. John Bay- lor thanked the speaker and pre- sented him with a gift. The district annual will be held at Walton on May 17th. The motto, "The nation's greatest asset is the soil," was capably given by Mrs. John Baylor. The hostess, assisted by Mrs, Russell Ruttan and Mrs, Norman Wade, served lunch. GORRI'1- The Evening Auxiliary of St, Stephen's Anglican, Church met at the ,home of Mrs, Harry King, Mrs. Ed, David, president, was in charge and articles for two layettes were turned in for the bale for overseas relief. Roll call was answered by the WA motto, "The love 'of Christ con., stralneth us," Mrs. Wm. Bennett gave the treasurer's report, Mrs. Lloyd -Griffith read 'the minutes. Mrs. E. O. Attwell conducted the worship study dealing with the character sketches of St, Phillip and St. James. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Frank David and Mrs, Edward David. E. Thompson, Clerk Hold Offices In Hensall Jack Heal, of 'Hensall, formerly of Winghain, has been elected president of the Hensall Kinsmen Club for the 1962-63 term and Mrs, Heal was named president of the Kinette Club there for the same period, THE LADIES' AID of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church sponsored a tea in the church basement, as that organization's method of marking the 100th anniversary of the church which takes place this year. Mrs. Ross Anderson took charge of the Bible study and Mrs. Clifford Logan conducted a con- test and lunch was served, 50th Anniversary, Entertain Family BELGRAVE-- Mr, and Mrs. Al. pert Vincent entertained quite a number of friends and members of their family to a dinner at the Ti. ger Dunlop Inn, near Godcrich, on Saturday evening, celebrating their 301,3 wedding anniversary, which had been on February 14. Owing to ill health they had not been able to have a party at that time, Those attending from I3clgravc were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Logan and family, Mr, and Mrs. Roy McSween and family, Mr, and Mrs. John E, McCallum, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Procter, Mrs. J. The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Robert Procter and Mrs, Richard Procter read the minutes. Procter. Mrs. Bolt conducted Bible quiz. Mrs, Hcrb Wheeler opened the I worship service with prayer, Mrs. i ].Earl Anderson conducted Bible a Presbyterian WMS Plans were made to turish clean- ing and decorating the church. A collection of articles for the bazaar in the fall were brought to this meeting as they are each month. Mrs. Cora McGill was in charge of the program which included a reading, "The. Old Milking Stool" by MrS, Lawrence Vannan. Mrs. Mol Bradburn read a poem on Mother's Day. The history of Robin Redbreast was recur by Mrs. Cora McGill. The meeting closed with prayer by Rev. R. Medley.
