Native of Howick
William B. Findlater died quietly
in hospital at• Dauphin, Man.,
on March 26th after a week's ill-
ness.
He was the last surviving mem-
ber of the family of the late Alex-
ander Findlater and Mary Pipe,
A sister, Mrs. Harriet Inglis of.
Carrick Township and a brother,
James, of Winnipeg, predeceased
him in January of this year,
Many from this district will re-
member his visit with the Inglis
family in the autumn of 1960. His
remarkable memory and ready wit
won him many friends,
William B. Findlater was a na-
tive of Howick Township, born in
1871. He attended school at SS.
No. 1, Howiek. Most of his life
was spent in Manitoba, He made
,his first trip to that province in
1892. In 1906 he was appointed to
the first council of Gilbert Plains
when that village was incorporated.
During his life there he had a con-
nection with the agricultural so-
ciety which he highly prized. He
was a member of the Manitoba
Legislature from 1915 to 1922,
In 1901 he began shipping live.
stock to Winnipeg and continued
until his retirement in 1946.
Surviving are three daughters
and one son, all of 'Western Can.
ads., His wife, the former Mary
Dickie, predeceased .him in 1939.
One son also prodeceased him,

Many fairly warm, diy days al-
lowed fanners to do some spring
plowing and the odd field of grain
was sown during the latter end of
the week of April 2nd,
Coldnights retarded the growth
Of wheat. Cold rains of April Thy
and 9th retarded progress with
seeding, but did green -up the wheat
and grasses to some extent, A
warm rain is needed to encourage
growth — the land is fairly dry.
Seed and fertilizer sale outlets re-
pertod very little activity until
April 5th.
