GRANTS +'ORDWICH--The Howick Agri cultural Society held its annual streeting in the Fordwic•h Cinnauuni- ty Hall, October 5 and 6tlt were dates set for the 19U2 Fair which is to be held in Fordwich. Field crop competition, being sponsored in co-operation with the Ontario Department of Agriculture, will he oats and ensilage corn. The society, decided to support the South Waterloo Agricultural Society motion requesting federal and pro- vincial government grants for capi- tal and maintenance purpose to as- sist women's and school diivsioxi . Ronald McMichael was elected p-esident; Robert Connell, 1st vice; 'William Wilson, 2nd vier. Mrs. Robert Gibson was re-elected sec- retary_treastirer, The society finished 1961 with :t balance of $1,023.85, The board of twelve directors is! as follows; Mel Taylor, Robert Gib- son, Mel .Allen, Harold Robinson, Murray Mulvey, Gordon Under- wood, Glenn McMichael, Roy Strong, Robert Neill, Parker Eurig, Scott Clarkson, Perry Strong. Some new names were added as associate 1 directors. The society will sponsor the In- stitute and boys' and girls' 4-H clubs again this year. Mrs. William. Wilson, president of Women's di- vision; Robert Connell and Ron Mc- Michael are delegates to the con- vention in Toronto on February 21st and 22nd. WHITECUURCI Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn and family visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scott at Ripley. Mrs. Irene Paterson and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Montgomery of To- ronto spent the week -end with Mr. Charles Taylor and celebrated tht 88th birthday of their mother, Mrs. William Taylor, at the Wingham Hospital. Mrs. Will Conn is visiting this week with Mr. and Mrs. Hardie Simpson of Teeswater. A full house attended the concert in the memorial hall here on Fri- day evening. Mr. Howard Walker was chairman for the occasion. A humorous skit, "Bachelor's Baby" was presented, with violin and vo- cal musical numbers. A twist con- test caused much merriment, with Barry Tiffin and Doreen Smyth as winners, for over 12 years and Shirley Tiffin and Janis Farrier for those under 12 years. Mr. A. E, Buckton was taken to Wingham Hospital on Tuesday last after pneumonia set in follow- ing a stroke. Mr. Thomas Morri- son has also been laid up with an attack of flu. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Aitcheson and children of St. Helens visited on Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Dowling and Laverne. Mrs. William Dawson, Mr, And- rew Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin visited on Saturday with Mr, H, D. Henderson and Mr. Lawrence Henderson of Listowel. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber and family visited on Sunday with Mr. \%'ednesday, reb. 7, 19M, spent the weelt-end at the same home. and Mrs. Robert Chambers of liart•iston.
