Mrs. George Michle gave an ad-
dress on "The United Church Wo.
men". lairs. Lyle Hopper told the
members of a letter she had re-
ceived from Dr, Pedley of Jamaica
asking for any religious material
and it was agreed that the supply
committee send any of this mater -
.al that Is available. It was agreed
that the bill for supplies for the
United Church Women be paid.
It was decided that the after-
noon and evening units meet on
Wednesday, Jan. 17th, and that
the secretary and treasurer pur-
:hase new books, The next meet-
ing will be held in March and will
oe the Easter meeting. Mrs. Scott
dosed with the hymn "Standing at
,.he Portals", followed by the Miz-
pah benediction. •
A social time followed during
which the members of the Provis-
onal committee served a delicious
lunch. Members of the provision-
al committee who spent consider-
able time getting this new organ-
ization off to a good start are Mrs.
J, H. Anderson, Mrs. Earl Ander-
son, Mrs. George Michie, Mrs. J. H.
Coultes, Mrs Lewis Stonehouse,
Mrs Clifford Logan, Mrs. Walter
Scott and Mrs. James Walsh.
Rev. J. H. Anderson was in
charge of a special inaugural ser-
vice on Sunday morning, held
along with the regular church ser-
vice.
Ladles' Guild
BI LGRAVI: Mrs, 'Robert Hig-
gins welcomed the members of the
Ladies' Guild of Trinity Anglican
Chureh to her home on '1'hursdav
afternoon for the regular and an-
nual meeting.
The vice-president, Mrs, Alec
Nethery, was in charge and opened
the meeting with the hymn "0 God
Our Help in Ages Past", Mrs, Cora
McGill read the Scripture lesson.
Minutes and financial statement
were read by Mrs. Richard Procter
and Mrs. Cooper Nethery. Caress of

Weekly Euchre
BELGRAVE --There were seven
tables in play at the regular week-
ly euchre party, with Mrs. Lewis
Stonehouse and Jack McBurney
winning the high prizes. Novelty
prize winners were Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Hanna. Consolation priz-
es went to Miss Joyce Armstrong
and Albert Vincent.
Mrs. J. 'W. Walters,.
Life=long Resident
A. life long resident of Wingham,
Mrs. Mary Walters of Pleasant
Valley, diced in Wingham General
Hospital on Saturday, Jan, 13th,
following a long illness. Mrs, Wal-
ters had been a patient in hospi-
tat for several months, and then
had been at Brookhaven Rest
Home for a long period, She re-
turned to the hospital the week be-
fore Christmas,
Tho former Mary Elizabeth
Casemore, daughter of the late
Margaret and Hugh Casemore,
was in her 780 year. Her hus-
band, John Wesley Walters, pre-
deceased her in 1942. There were
no children,
Mrs. Walters was highly respect
ed by her •neighbors In :Pleasant
Valley. She had a happy dispos-
ition and will be remembered, es
pecially by those who resided in
the neighborhood over a period of
years, as a very kindly and
thoughtful person.
Mrs, Walters is survives] by two
sisters, Sarah (Mrs. William Jen-
kins) of Bluevale and Ethel (Mrs.
L', Kirke god) of Kitchener, and a
brother, William Casemore of
Wingham,
She was a member of Wingham
United Church and funeral services
were conducted by Rev. T. Garnett
Hussar from the R. A. Currie &
Sons funeral home on Monday af-
ternoon with interment in the
Wingham cemetery.
The pallbearers were Carl. Case -
more, Robert Casemore, Howard
Casemore, Gershom Johnson, Hen-
ry Wheeler and Frank Balfour.

Sarnia to Owen Sound, rectrved their caps on Friday in an im-
pressive ceremony at the nurses' residence at the Wingham

The death of Miss Hannah Grace
Tiarris occurred at the Colander
Nursing Herne in Brussels on Jan-
uary 13th,
Miss Harris was born In 187'. in
Howtek Township, one and a half
miles north of Fordwli.k where she
lived until her parents, the late Mr,
and .Mrs, Daniel Harris, retired and
moved to Harriston.. She lived in
that town until 1937 when she niov.

home with her sister, Mrs, Wm,
(Mary) Wade and the later Mr,
Wade. Owing to ill health she
spent the last two and a half years
in a nursing home,
She Is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Herbert (Bertha) Fitzpatrick,
New Westminster, B.C., and Mrs.
Wade of Fordwich,
Miss Harris was a former mem.
ber of Orange Hill and Harriston
United Churches.
Funeral services were conducted
by Rev. E, C. Attwell of the Gorrie
Anglican Church in the Moir fun-

Presbyterial Rally
To Be in Belgrave
The annual meeting of Huron
Presbyterial was held in St. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church in Clin-
ton, when Miss Eva Somerville, of
Goderich, Was re-elected president.

FORDWICH—St. Anne's Guild
met in the basement of the Church
on Thursday for the regular meet-
ing. Members of the W.A. and the
A.Y.P.A, joined the Guild members
to hear the guest speaker.
The meeting opened with a
hymn, .followed by the Lord's
prayer. .The Scripture was read
by Mrs. Lois Simif(Ans..
The president, Mrs. Jean Soth-
ern, then welcomed the guesls and
guest speaker. Rol) call was ans-
wered by eleven members. The
minutes of the last, meeting were
read. by Miss Elva Foster, assis-
tant secretary.
After a short businessdiscussion
the president introduced the speak-
er, Everett Cooper. Before show-
ing his slides of the Arctic. :where
he was stationed for a year, Mr.
Cooper gave a very interesting talk
on the fitr North, mainly about
Port Harrison, where he was work-
ing at' the time. After showing his
slides of the North country, Mr.
Cooper showed a few slides of
Montreal, Ottawa and other points
in Ontario, as well as Wiartor,,
where he is now stationed,
The ,president thanked Mr. Coo-
per and Mrs, Beatrice Jordc.r pre-
sented him with a small gift.
Mr. Attwell then closed the
meeting with prayer. Lunch was

Mrs. Edwin Gilniar, 70, of Car-
rick Township and mother of Mrs.
Raymond Gowdy of the Wingham
Public School teaching staff, died
suddenly at 'her home on Monday.
The former Mary Detttnan was
a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Dettman and was born
March 19, 1891, in Howlett Town-
ship. She was a, member of the
McIntosh United Church and the
Women's Missionary Society. She
and her husband farmed in Car -

service was held Sunday morning
in the Fordwich United Church
when the Rev. A. C. Coles install-
ed the new officers of the United
Church Women.

FORDWICH Funeral service
was conducted on Wednesday for
Herman Albrecht, Fordwich native,
at the Moir funeral home in Gor-
rie. Rev, John Murdock of Knox
Presbyterian Ch u rch, Waterloo, of-
ficiated.
Burial was in Fordwich ceme-
tery.
Mr. Albrecht died at Coutts Pa-
vilion, Freeport Sanatorium, neon'
Kitchener, after a long illness. Be-
fore entering hospital he had re-
sided at R.R. 1, Ayr. He was 8S
years old.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Albrecht, he was born 'gear
Clifford. His marriage to Lillie
Etta Gibson took place in rims.
She predeceased him in 1943
Mr. Albrecht farmed at Con. 2.
i-Iowick, for many years. He w,•s
a member of the Foniwieh United
Church and had served on the
board of Management for some
time.
Surviving are two son:,, Dalton rf
Weston and Archive of Breslau: one
daughter, Mrs. Leland ( Violet'
Kress of R.R. 1, Ayr. with whom
he resided since retiring from the
farm; one sister, Mrs. .Minnie
Wells of Listowel; 10 grandehildrun
and 14 great grandchildren.
