County council votes to give new warden pay raise Huron County’s new warden Lionel Wilder will get an increase in his salary this year after a decision at the December 7 mee ting of county council. At the meeting, held a week before the election of the new Warden, county councillors defeat ed a motion which would have held the Warden’s honorarium at the same level as 1989: $5,200. John Doherty, Deputy-reeve of Goderich began the debate oppos ing the prosposal to freeze the honorarium saying that councillors were getting an increase in their per diem for meetings of four and a Business and Professional Directory half to five per cent and he felt the warden, who gives up so much time for county business, should get an increase too. Grant Stirling, a former warden and reeve of Goderich township pointed out that the Warden is actually getting a raise because he or she attends county council sessions and committee meetings and so will get the per diem as well as the honorarium. Tom Tomes, Reeve of Stephen said he felt the work of the Warden should be recognized with a raise. Gerry Prout, Reeve of Usborne went further saying that with the I amount of driving the Warden does in a year he felt the county should supply a car rather than see the Warden wear out his or her own car. Warden Dave Johnston said Nigel Bellchamber, Clerk Admini strator was looking into the pros and cons of that possibility. A recorded vote was taken on the issue and the proposal to leave the Warden’s honorarium the same was defeated with both candidates for Warden, Reeve Wilder and Marie Hicknell, Reeve of McKillop voting in favour of leaving the salary the same for 1990. After the defeat of the motion, GENERA! J. Richard Elliott [519] 523-9725 Reeve Doherty moved to increase the Warden’s honorarium by $300 to $5,500. Committee and session pay for county councillors was set at $95 a ELLIOTT INSURANCE BROKERS LTD.INSURANCE IN ALL BRANCHES Established 1910 BLYTH, ONTARIO N0M1H0 LIVESTOCK MORTALITY INSURANCE 519-523-4481 day for 1990 or $65 per half dav.
