Crusaders can’t retain Drayton tournament title On Saturday^ Dec. 2 the Crusad­ ers were on the road to Drayton for the Drayton Tournament. The Cru­ saders’ first game was against the Seaforth Seahawks. The Crusaders opened the scor­ ing two minutes into the game when Troy Pocaluyko converted the set up from Dave Stephenson and Trev Pocaluyko. Ken Cousins then put the team up by two goals when he scored on a play from Brian Campbell and Jamie Robinson. Seaforth cut the lead to one goal when Jim Harrison scored with the assist going to John Dale. The first period ended 2-1 for Brussels. The Crusaders regained the two goal lead when Tim Fritz converted a pass from Paul Montgomery a minute and a half into the second period. Seaforth didn’t quit. They scored their second goal of the game when Harrison set up Tom Uniac to cut the lead to one again. With three and a half minutes to go in the period Harrison scored his second of the game with assists giong to Gerard Ryan and Tom Turner. Rob Cove then scored the game winner a minute later from Harrison and Dale. There was no scoring in the third period of play thus giving the Seahawks a 4-3 victory over the Crusaders. CONSOLATION ROUND The Crusaders returned to Dray­ ton on Sunday for the second game of the tourney against the Tees- water Falcons. Dave Stephenson scored the only goal of the first period on a set up by Troy Pocaluyko ancTPaul Robinson. One minute and 40 seconds into the second period Brian Campbell increased the Crusaders lead with Tev Pocaluyko and Jeff Espensen drawing assists on the play. The Crusaders lead 2-0 after two peri­ ods of play. The Crusaders started the third period off when Dave Montgomery scored from Troy Pocaluyko and Belgrave shuts out opposition An exhibition game was played November 29 between Hensall and Belgrave. These two teams have played four games so far this year and they have both shown equal skills. The boys played a good strong clean game but Hensall just seemed to have all the right moves to win 2-0 over Belgrave. PILUKE GETS 3 SHUTS-OUTS excited and full of cheers. The boys responded with Brent Robinson starting it off with 10 minutes left in the first period. Ryan Cook got a goal followed up by Eugene Fenton. Wingham fought hard but Belgrave just fought harder. The game ended with Brent Robinson getting one more making the score 4-0 for Belgrave. The following deserve a great round of applause: Chris Piluke, goalie; Tom Pfeiffer, Brian Marks, Dave Piluke, Kirk Krieger, Danny Gusso, Ryan Moffatt, Ryan Cook, Eugene Fenton, Brent Robinson, Wayne Fenton, Corey Moran, Jer­ emy Campbell and Vaughn Vin­ cent. Coaches are Rob Gordon and Cam Cook. Jeff Espensen to increase the lead to 3-0. Teeswater scored to break the shut out when Blake Flett scored on a pass from Brian Weber. Troy Pocaluyko scored to regain the three-goal lead with Dave Stephen­ son drawing the assist on the goal. The Falcons didn’t give up as they cut the lead by one when Weber scored on a play from Paul Cronin. Then Dennis Becker and Steve Zettler combined to set up Weber for his second goal of the game for the Falcons. With two minutes left in the game Troy Pocaluyko scored with Dave Montgomery and Dave Harding drawing assists on the goal. The score ended up at 5-3 with the Crusaders getting the victory and moving on to the Consolation final against the host team Drayton. Drayton opened the scoring half way through the first period when Jeff Dude scored on a play from Cober and Williams. This goal proved to be the game winning goal as Drayton goaltender M. Harwood held the Crusaders at bay for the game to register the shut-out for Drayton. Drayton added an insurance marker at the five minute mark of the third when Steve Day scored to make the final 2-0 for Drayton. The win gave Drayton the Consolation championship. The first game was played Saturday at 8 a.m. against HMP Hurricanes. Belgrave was on the scoreboard first with Brent Robinson getting a goal followed by Dan Gusso assist­ ed by Brent. Brent Robinson got the third goal assisted by Brian Marks. Eugene Fenton got his first goal of the season assisted by Vaughn Vincent. H.M.P. fought hard but Belgrave was just too strong. In the third period Ryan Moffatt and Brent Robinson added one more apiece making the score 6-0 for Belgrave. BELGRAVE VS. KINCARDINE The second game was the best the Belgrave boys have ever play­ ed. They all played as a team. The fans were very excited as they watched the boys play such a strong game. Kincardine was a good team but they were intent on playing a little too rough which cost them the game. While their players were sitting in the penalty box, Belgrave boys just played to win with Brent Robinson starting it off in the first period assisted by Wayne Fenton. There was no score in the second period. Brent Robinson and Danny Gus­ so got one more apiece making the score 3-0 for Belgrave. BELGRAVE VS. WINGHAM This was the third and final game of the tournament for Belgrave. They had won two games and were out to win the third and they did just that. The fans were very Bly th Pee Wees win BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wees continued their puck wizardry last week as they won a shoot-out over Seaforth by an 8-6 count. The first period ended 2-2 as Blyth sandwiched their goals be­ tween two Seaforth tallies. Michael Bromley scored a short-handed goal to open Blyth’s goal scoring thanks to some persistent fore­ checking from Jerrod Button. Brian McNichol scored Blyth’s second goal as he put one in the top corner from in close with assists to linemates Ryan Chamney and Christopher Howson. Blyth outscored the visitors 3-1 in the second period for a 5-3 lead. Jerrod Button whipped one in from the slot after a set-up from Michael Bromley. Michael Bromley then set up Benjie Hakkers who cashed in his own rebound over a prone goaltender. Michael Bromley then added a power-play goal to his credit as he poked in the rebound of Jerrod Button shot. The teams staged a see-saw battle in the third as the game action caught fire. The teams traded goals early as Mike John­ stone replied for B, /th assisted by his hard-working centreman, Tim Lyons. Seaforth staged a comeback midway through the period as they tied the game with two goals less than one minute apart. With just under five minutes to play Wilfred Datema fired the winner on a power-play after a neat pass from Michael Bromley. Brian McNichol added an insurance tally 20 se­ conds later as he closed out the game scoring on a smart two-on- one break with Christopher How- son. The team survived some late game scares to win another close and exciting game, this time 8-6 over Seaforth. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Chico Resch, on his talkative nature: “If I wasn’t talking, I wouldn’t know what to say.’’ Overloads edge Seaforth On Wednesday night, the Rad­ ford Overload Oldtimers hosted Seaforth Queens and came out on top 8-6. Radfords spotted Seaforth a 3-1 lead early but roared back four unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead. Seaforth then scored twice and the teams traded markers to deadlock the game at six. Radfords sealed the victory with two tallies in the last five minutes of the game. Radford Overloads goaltender Harry Wilson proved to be the top performer with a strong game in the Blyth net. Radford scorers were Barney Stewart, three; Gary Courtney and Wayne McDougall, two each and Tom Black.
