Brussels shooters spent most of the night around the Mount Forest goal and could easily have scored even more goals than they did. Blyth Tykes win 2 games, lose 1 The Brussels Bulls climbed into first place in Western Jr C. action on the weekend with a pair of victories to improve their record to nine wins, three losses and two ties. On a rare Friday night home game Brussels came out skating and trounced the Mount Forest Patriots 9 - L The Bulls powerplay clicked twice in the early going as Brett Martin and Craig King set up Ron Strome at 6:25, followed two minutes later by a Corey McKee and Strome combination to set up Marty Rutledge. Mount Forest scored their only goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the Sports Blyth Novices win, lose On Thursday, Nov. 23 the Blyth Novice A hockey team took to the ice in Blyth against the Seaforth squad. Blyth came out flat in this game and finished that way. This game remained 1-0 until the third period for Seaforth, but Blyth could not display any offence in this game at ill. Seaforth kept the pressure on and scored three more goals in the third period, winning the game by the score of 4-0. Jason Badley did Blyth’s goal­ tending duties and performed well. Despite this, Blyth suffered its second loss of the year. BLYTH 7 - GODERICH 3 The Blyth Novice team travelled to Goderich the following Saturday, Nov. 25 and played a much improved game. Mike Ansley showed good puck control scoring Blyth’s first goal, with Chris Carter picking up the assist, for the only goal in the first period. Goderich tied the game early in the second, but Blyth came right back with. six unanswered goals. Michael Haggitt scored Blyth’s second goal on a nee pass from the corner by Chris Carter. The prettiest goal of the game, as Amanda Anderson one-timed a goal-mouth pass from linemate Darryl Bromley and defenceman Michael Ansley. The flow of the game continued as Jeff Cowan beat the Goderich goalie with Michael Haggitt and Scott Bromley picking up the assists. Michael Haggitt got his second goal of the night, as he stole the puck and blasted one to the top corner. Darryl Bromley first period before Strome scored his second of the period 25 seconds later on passes from Rutledge and McKee for a 3-1 lead. Steve Vandendool notched the hat-trick during second period ac­ tion, all on passes from Steve Fritz while Andrew Weber set up a Jamie Gibbings shot from the point for a 7-1 Bulls lead after two periods. Marty Rutledge finished the scoring parade with two unassisted efforts, on his sixth shorthanded goal of the season for the 9-1 win. Jeff Roy faced only 12 shots for the victory while Brussels took 47 shots on the Patriots goal. This was scored Blyth’s sixth goal as he took the puck from the centre ice face-off circle and split the God­ erich defence. Michael Courtney tallied Blyth’s seventh and final goal on a goal­ mouth scramble with Scott Bromley assisting on the play. Goderich finished the hockey game with two gc ils late in the third, but too little, too late, as Blyth skated away with a 7-3 win. Jason Badley again played well in net. Blyth Novice “A” take to the ice again this Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in Blyth against Milverton and hope to keep their skating game alive. Belgrave Atoms tie Hensall in thriller Wednesday night, November 22 the Belgrave Atoms were on the road to Hensall for an exhibition hockey game. Belgrave has never won against Hensall so there was a lot of excitement when the game was as close as it was. Brent Robinsen got the first goal for Belgrave to start the game off but Hensall was not long tying the score. Ryan Moffatt added one more for Belgrave assisted by Brent Robinson and Vaughn Vin­ cent.- Hensall scored again but Belgrave came back with one more by Brent Robinson. In the third period Hensall came back and tied the score 3-3. This was a great game for all the fans. probably the Bulls best three periods of hockey to date as they combined their skating, hitting and passing abilities for 60 minutes. Sunday night in Arthur the Bulls overcame a slow start to defeat the Grand Valley Harvesters 7-2. Jason Kraemer scored the only goal of a lacklustrious first period on passes from Fritz and Vanden­ dool. Grand Valley tied the score early in the second before the Bulls combined for three consecutive goals, Jeff Coulter from Curt Wall and McKee; Kraemer’s second of the game from Fritz and Vanden­ dool and finally Andrew Weber from Rutledge. A late Grand Valley goal ended the second period 4-2 in favour of Brussels. The Bulls sealed the victory with three unanswered goals in the third period from Rutledge, Strome and Coulter. Murray Foxton made 23 stops for the win while the Grand Valley goaltender faced 45 shots. Special mention goes to the playmaking of Steve Fritz who enjoyed a six assist weekend. As well the Bulls speciality teams came forward to score six power­ play and one shorthanded goals while defensively the Juniors al­ lowed only 35 shots against in two games. Also thanks to Midget-aged play­ ers Scott Bremner and Dan Beuer- mann for helping fill the roster due to injuries and school commit­ ments. Friday night the Bulls travel to Goderich to play the Sailors in an 8:30 start. Sunday the Bulls are in Walkerton for a 2:00 game. Wed­ nesday, Dec. 6 the Bulls play a mid-week home game vs. the Mount Forest club. Game time is 9 p.m. Friday night found the boys in Goderich for another exciting game with Brent Robinson getting the first goal. Goderich replied with three goals. Even with Goderich ahead by two the boys didn’t give up, they just worked harder. The fans cheered and the boys responded with Kirk Krieger gett­ ing his first goal assisted by Jeremy Campbell and Wayne Fen­ ton. Goderich scored one more as their fans cheered. Belgrave team was cheered on as Jeremy Camp­ bell and Brent Robinson added one more a piece tieing the score 4-4 in a great game. The next game is Wednesday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Hensall. < On November 18, Blyth was at home to Brussels in a big way. The Blyth boys dominated over Brus­ sels for the entire game, as they never let up. At the end of the first period Blyth had a commanding lead of 6-0. The Tykes kept adding to their lead with four more in the second period and another four in the third. When the game was finished the home team skated away with a 14-0 win. Goal scorers were Jeremy Van Amersfoort, seven; Matt Ander­ son, two; Nathan Shannon, two; Joel Arthur, Dean Wilson, Aaron Bakker with one each. The next day, Blyth travelled to Wingham for a tough game with the Wingham squad. The game was hard fought right from the start, but at the end^Blyth came up short with a 3-2 loss. * On November 25 Blyth hosted another tough team, this time from Zurich. Blyth got on the board first, as Joel Arthur picked up the puck at centre ice and out-skated the Zurich defence to score Blyth’s first at 6:03 of the first period. Then early in the second Blyth added to their lead when Nathan Shannon got a loose puck in front of the Zurich net, to make it 2-0. Zurich finally got one back at 7:15 of the second period to cut Blyth’s lead in half.
