The trophy was donated by Mr. Franken. Lawrences mark 49th Visiting clubs attend WI meeting Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawrence celebrated their 49th wedding anni­ versary on Sunday, November 19. Guests were Irene Dickey and Gary Collins from Belfast, Ontario; Audrey and John Rutledge of Goderich; Madeline and Keith Kerr and family of Nile; Mary and ‘Being prepared’ 4H theme BY CHERi KRYZANOWSKI On October 24 at 7 p.m. the sixth meeting of the Auburn Super Safeties Home and Farm Safety Club was held at the home of Regina Campbell. The meeting, with the theme of “Being Prepared” was opened with the 4H Club Pledge. After roll call and the readings of the minutes the members were split into two groups. One group put together first aid kits, including gauze, 4H Achievement Night Dec. 4 in Aubum On October 30 the fifth meeting of the Auburn Food Phantoms was held. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. At this meeting members dis­ cussed what is safe to use in a microwave and what is not. They also had fun judging cooking dishes. The meeting was closed with the 4H motto “Learn to do by doing”. On October 23 the sixth meeting was held at the Auburn Missionary Church. The Food Phantoms and their guests opened Gary Smith and family of Dungan­ non; Cathy and Barry Austin and family of Goderich; Laurie and Mary Houston and Cory of God­ erich; Diane and Cathy Hays and friend Doug Stephenson of Luck­ now, Penny Rutledge and family of Teeswater; Troy Carter of Blyth, friend of Darlene Kerr. bandages, and first aid booklets with the help of Mrs. Archambault and Mrs. Meader. The second group was taught by Mrs. Camp­ bell and Mrs. Bean, how to save someone who is choking by practic­ ing on a partner. Members were also taught how to save someone who is not breathing, by practicing on an adult and child dummy. There were no more meetings and a date for achievement is yet to be decided on. the meeting with the 4H pledge. They then enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the members. The meal was topped off with ice cream and three different toppings. They then were given a crossword puzzle to work on for 10 minutes. After that they watched a video on bacteria growth in food. There are no more meetings and a date for Achievement is yet to be decided on. This Achievement Night will be held at the Auburn Community Hall on December 4 at 7 p m. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at the Community Hall on Tuesday, Nov­ ember 21 with visitors from Londesboro and Tiger Dunlop Insti­ tutes. There were fourteen mem­ bers and four guests. The president Erma Cartwright welcomed all. The meeting opened Youth Group to go carolling Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the Communion service and there was early hymn-sing. Mrs. Gordon Gross was organist. Call to Wor­ ship was read alternately followed by hymn, “Praise My Soul the King of Heaven”. The senior choir sang an anthem. The offering was received by Marinus Bakker and Murray Rollinson and dedicated. Prayer chorus was sung. Rev. Snihur’s sermon was entitled “The World of Life”. The Communion hymn “Breathe on Me Breath of God” was sung and then there was the sharing of bread and wine followed by prayer. “When I survey the Wondrous Cross” was sung. Rev. Snihur pronounced the Benediction and the service closed with the response “Go Now In Peace”. Bible Study and Prayer Group will meet this week on Friday at 1:15 at the Snihur’s. The Junior Youth Group will meet on Thursday for volleyball at Hullett Central School from 7 - 9 p.m. Senior Youth Group will be on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and meet at the Hillcrest Restaurant in Londesboro for sup­ per, followed by Christmas caroll­ ing in the village. Mrs. Cartwright read a poem “Grandmother’s Day”. Mrs. Evelyn Merrill read the minutes in the absence of the secretary. Correspondence was read and dealt with. The three groups of the 4H clubs will be held at the Community Hall on Decem­ ber 4 at 7 p.m. There will be speakers on different topics. The Women’s Institute ladies are to bring cookies. Tina Empey gave the treasurer’s report. Each mem­ ber answered the roll call with a tea towel for the hall. Prizes went to Eppie Lawrence, for closest anniversary; lucky saucers, Mildred Lawlor and Lois Elliott and a social time was enjoyed. 4 tables in play at Aubum euchre The weekly euchre party was held on Tuesday evening, Novem­ ber 21 at Community Hall with four tables in play. Prizes went to: high lady, Jane Giousher; low lady, Adeline Allin; high man, Ed Daer; low man, Clarence Allin; lucky chair, Mil­ dred Lawlor. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.
