The Blyth Novice A hockey team
fell victim to a very strong Mitchell
team last Sunday, Nov. 19.
Both teams came flying out of
the gates with the action going end
to end. At the six minute mark of
the first period Jeff Cowan opened
the scoring with a great individual
effort getting Blyth on the score
board.
The last three minutes of the first
period belonged to Mitchell as they
stormed back with three unanswer
ed goals.
Blyth lost the game in the second
period as they fell apart defensive
ly, and got out-scored by 6 to 1. Jeff
Cowan picked up his second goal
on a hard shot with Jason Badley
and Jerimiah Hamm getting the
assists. Blyth re-grouped after the
second period break, and came out
a much better team. Blyth scored
the only two goals in the third
period. Jeff Cowan scored a hat-
trick set up by Mike Courtney forBulls lose

The Brussels Bulls remain in
second place after weekend Junior
C action with a record of seven
wins, three losses and two ties.
Friday night in Hanover the
Bulls lack of muscle showed as the
'hometown Barons simply outhit the
Juniors for a 6-J Hanover win.
Steve Fritz opened the scoring
two minutes into the game with
assists to Andrew Henderson and
Craig King. Hanover tied the score
28 seconds later, took the lead late
in the period and upped their lead
to 4-1 in the second period before
Jason Kraemer set up Bevin Flett
on the powerplay at 15:42.
Hanover notched a shorthanded
goal early in the third period while
Kevin DeJong ended the Bulls
scoring on a pass from Henderson.
A late Baron powerplay goal set the
Bulls home with their third defeat
of the season.
Hanover outshot Brussels 48 -
30. Kevin DeJong was named the
games third star. Hanover showed
how they have won five consecutive
league championships by playing
“baron” hockey, forechecking
strongly and playing the man at
every opportunity.
Sunday afternoon Brussels re
bounded with a 7-4 win over the
visiting Walkerton Blackhawks.
Walkerton opened the scoring on
the powerplay. Andrew Henderson
tied the game with assists to Bevin
Flett and Strome and the Bulls took
the lead on a Jamie Gibbings point
shot set-up by Andrew Weber.
Walkerton tied the score early in
the second before Brussels clicked
for four goals in a five minute span
for a 6-2 lead. Steve Vandendool
set up Brett Martin at 4:18 then
scored himself on a pass from
Bevin Flett at 7:44. Flett and Corey
McKee then combined to set up
Ron Strome at 8:51 while Martin
notched his second of the period
from McKee and Marty Rutledge
to end the Bulls onslaught.
Walkerton ended the second
period scoring summary and open
ed the scoring in the third to close
to within 6-4. Ron Strome scored
his second of the game from
Rutledge and Henderson to seal
the win. The Blackhawks outshot
the Bulls 39-33.
The Bulls are at home for a rare
Friday night game this week when
the Mount Forest Patriot’s skate
into town for a 9:00 p.m. match.
Sunday night the Bulls are on the
road when they travel to Arthur to
play the Grand Valley Harvesters.
Blyth’s third goal. Mike Courtney
finished the scoring in the game as
he found himself all alone in front
of the Mitchell goalie on a nice
set-up by Mike Haggitt. Blyth got
out-muscled in this game by the
score of 9 to 4, but plan to battle
back this Thursday night Nov. 23 as
Seaforth comes to Blyth at 7 p.m. in
what should be a good hockey
game.
