President Patricia graciously ex tended a warm welcome to those in attendance. Two of the members and four teen volunteers had attended the H.A.A.O. Convention in Toronto. The president remark ed that convention is what the hospital auxiliary is all about, that in the broad sense you learn what other auxiliaries do. Convention attendance is a learning experi ence. Leona Towton and Doreen Naga- lo were the two representatives at the convention. Doreen as Chair man of the gift shop found the session on “Absolute Rules of Retailing’’ most informative. Seven rules of retailing from accepting plastic to advertising and display were given and lighting, security and shoplifting were also topics. Hospital gift shops are intriguing places to shop. The volunteer staff should be commended for the planning and effort that is required to make these shops a success. Leona Towton attended a session on “Managing Volunteers’’. When asked why they volunteer the common answer is “I want to help other people’’. Volunteers can share the same problems as paid workers: frustration, resisting change and new ideas, having to learn new things, but most agree the satisfaction received is worth the effort. Peggy Menzies shared some new ideas on fundraising. Nga Le, Nguejet Le, Connie McKenzie and Deanna Gault were the teens who attended the conven tion. They also shared briefly the highlights of sessions attended. One for example was “Teenage Depression and Suicidal Be haviour’’. They thanked the Auxi liary members for the opportunity to attend the convention. Necess- sary business was transacted: cor respondence, reports from the Hospital Board and committee reports were given. With Christ mas fast approaching plans are underway to again decorate the hospital for the festive season. After some pertinent new busi ness was conducted the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is December 4 at 10 a.m. Come and be a part of decorating the hospital. 200attend STO meeting CUSTOM COMBINING - CORN, beans, etc. Air reel 4WD rotary machine.
