Bly th Scout Group invests leaders, members The Vst Blyth Group Committee met bn Nov. 4 at Blyth Public School. The meeting was opened with a reading from the current Leader Magazine regarding the importance of outdoor activities for all sections of Scouting. The Blyth Legion donated $500 toward 1st Blyth Scouting during Legion Week in September. The Blyth Lions donated $500 on Oct. 5 during Sponsor Night. Thanks was expressed to the two sponsors for their generous donations. Twelve new leaders handed in bills for training courses they attended on the weekend of Nov. 3. Beavers had a dress-up Hallo­ ween Party on Oct. 24. They have had stories and crafts about “Friends of the Forest". They hope to have someone from Hullett Wildlife visit them soon. New Cubs have been working on New Scouts Four new Boy Scouts were invested in a ceremony at Blyth Public School. The new scouts are (front row) Brad Walsh, Derick Cressman, Chris Van Loo, and Jeff Josling. Scout leaders are (rear) Jason Lee, Darlene Vincent and Steve Root. Invested Blyth Cubs invested seven new members in a ceremony Nov. 7 at Blyth Public School. Joiningwere (front row, left to right) Brent Sauve, Justin Sauve, Joey Airdrie, Greg MacLeod (Keeo); (second row) Wesley Huizinga, David Sauve, Rick MacLeod and Mathew Armstrong. New leaders are (back) Art Airdrie and Cheryl MadLeod. their requirements for Investiture. At future meetings they will be doing First Aid and knots. Kub Kars have been purchased and will be distributed soon. It is hoped that parents will also build their own Kub Kars to participate with their sons in the second annual Blyth Kub Kar Rally. The District Kub Kar Rally will be at Zurich this year. Scouts had Constable Marshall. OPP, talk to them about drugs and alcohol. They are planning an Awareness Run on Nov. 18. Scouts are participating in a contest to design a new .crest for the Ben- miller Camporee. All sections have tjeen selling calendars. To date 100 calendars have been sold. Thanks was ex­ pressed to the many people who supported this fund raising project. Plans for Scout-Guide Week are underway. The week will begin with a church service at Auburn Missionary Church on Feb. 18. The annual banquet will be on Wed., Feb. 21 at the arena. The possibility of setting up a special fund to help sponsor eligi­ ble Scouts to future Canadian Jamborees was discussed. The next Group Committee meeting will be Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Blyth Public School. SPONSOR NIGHT A Sponsor Night was held at the Blyth Legion on Oct. 5. Tom Chapman, President of Huron Dis­ trict Boy Scouts, told local mem­ bers of the Lions and Legion of their responsibilities of sponsors of 1st Blyth Scouting and of the role of Scouting in the community. John Battye, Blyth Legion President, presented $50 to Tom Chapman to be used by Huron District Scout­ ing. Al Donaldson, Lions Rep^ to Blyth Scouting, presented a cheque for $500 to Blyth Scouting Chair­ person, Trish Thomson, for the group’s use. A letter of greeting and thanks from 1st Blyth Group Committee was read by Trish Thomson. APPLE DAY Apple Day was held on Saturday, Oct. 28. Cubs and Scouts took their baskets of apples to Blyth, Auburn, Londesboro, The Old Mill and surrounding rural areas. Thanks was expressed to the community for their support. Appreciation was also expressed to Boyd Taylor for giving the boys a discount on their seven bushels of apples. REMEMBRANCE DAY chocolateeveryone enjoyed hot cookies and apples. All other leaders were attending their train­ ing workshops that day. Numerous Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and their leaders participat­ ed in the November 11 Remem­ brance Day Parade from the Legion to Memorial Hall. INVESTITURE Beavers, Cubs and Scouts held their investiture on Tues., Nov. 7 at Blyth Public School. Many parents attended the impressive ceremon­ ies.
