Phone 523-4360 ‘Prayer’ sermon topic Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, November 5 were Roy and Marie Krauter. Ushers were Kevin Wright, Law­ rence Bergsma, Kent Shillinglaw and Kevin Shillinglaw. Kelly Bosman and Kerri Szusz sang “Jesus Loves Me”. The sermon topic was “The Parts of Prayer, Teach us to Pray No. 2”. The Senior Youth Group meets on Thursday, November 9 at 7 p.m. at the Snihurs for movie night. The Goodwill Truck is at the church on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Articles should be at the church before 10 a.m. There will be no worship or Sunday School next Sunday, November 12. Instead a joint service will be held with Auburn United Church at 10 a.m. A fellowship time will follow the service. For boys and girls Grades 3 - 6 the first meeting of After Supper Kids Club will be held on Nov. 18 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Senior choir practice is Monday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. and at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, November 19 and 26. 16 women attend Nov. Burns UCW meeting Government grant Adah Smith and Marguerite Sanderson of Maple Villa in Brussels accepted a cheque from MP Murray Cardiff on behalf of the residents of the seniors’ apartment. They plan to use the money, which was part of a grant, to purchase a new piano, card table, chairs and dishes. The November meeting of Burns U.C.W. was held on Wednesday, November 1 in Londesboro United Church with 16 members present. Clara Riley opened the meeting with a reading, “Keeping in Touch”. Hymn 256 was sung accompanied by Beth Knox on the piano. Clara Riley read the scrip­ ture, John, chapter 10. Beth Knox gave a reading “Why wear a Poppy”. Clara Riley led in prayer. Rene Snell conducted the business Allens celebrate 50th Sympathy is extended to Tom Allen and family from the commun­ ity on the passing of his brother Wilford this past week. Congratulations to Tom and Genevieve Allen who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, November 11. A gathering of the Johnston family was held at the Classic Hullett Central class visits Pioneer Museum Editors: Laurel Campbell and Erin Jamieson GRADE 7 TRIP TO GODERICH by Mandy Hadenko On October 26 the grade 7 class and two of the students grandpar­ ents went to the Huron County Pioneer Museum. When they got to the museum they broke up into two groups. While one group toured the museum, the other watched the film “First Winter”. When both groups had finished touring the museum they went to McDonald’s for lunch. They have to do a report on their trip to Goderich. DANCE by Lyndsey-Dawn Salverda On Friday, October 27 Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 had a Halloween dance. Before the dance got under­ way each grade had a chance to perform either the Birddance or the Bunnyhop. to see which grade could to them the best. Grade seven won, and as a prize each student was awarded a sucker, Pop and chips were also sold. CROSS COUNTRY by Michael de Jong Congratulations to the cross country teams who did so well. The competition was held on Tuesday, October 24. Hullett placed second behind Huron Centennial. We won three team champions: Midget Girls, Midget Boys and Intermedi­ ate Boys. We also had one indivi­ and gave a reading. Roll call was answered with a bible verse and minutes of last meeting were read. The treasurer’s report was given by Margaret Taylor. Josephine MacGregor thanked the U.C.W. for the 40th wedding anniversary card. Renee Snell will make enquiries regarding the meal for the December meeting. Mem­ bers will exchange Christmas gifts. Police investigate hit and run A minor hit and run incident in Brussels was reported to the Wing­ ham OPP on Sunday, November 15. A 1986 GMC pickup truck, owned by Mr. Daniel White was' parked facing south on Albert Street. Police state that a vehicle travelling south struck the left side of Mr. White’s truck and failed to remain. Jane Muegge hosts 4-H meeting BY KEVIN CAMPSCHROER On October 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Jane Muegge the fourth meeting of the Londesboro I Good Foods Fast 4H club was held. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. Then the president, Cindy Campschroer introduced Jane to everyone. Next, the min­ utes of the last meeting were read and the roll call was done. Then the members went to the kitchen to cook with the microwave. First, members made S’mores to GRADE EIGHT’S GO ON TOUR by Melissa Kerr and Sarah Rouw On Wednesday, November 1, nine grade eight students went for a tour of the Blyth Festival Theatre at the Memorial Hall. They went first to the workshop to see the costumes, props, etc. After they toured the workshop, they went to the Memorial Hall for another tour of the stage and lighting booth. The tour was planned as an extension to their English assign­ ment. The class has been studying plays and playwrights. In class, they have been writing plays and designing sets. The tour of the Festival Theatre answered many of the questions about how a play is produced. If you purchased a tray, you can expect it to be delivered this week. If you want your child to have re-takes of their school picture, the date is Friday, November 10, 1989. On November 10 at 9 a.m. everyone is welcome to attend a Remembrance Day assembly dis­ played by the grades 6, 7, and 8 students at Blyth P.S. HALLOWEEN FUN by Kim Ferguson and Kimey Richmond On Tuesday, Oct. 31, Blyth P.S. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. The minutes of the last meeting were read then the business was done. Members wrote a thank you note to the township for letting them use the hall and to Jane Muegge for demonstrating microwave use. Then they discussed who would bring what to the party, then activities from meetings four and five were completed and the meet­ ing was closed with the 4H motto. held a Halloween parade. At one o’clock it started. The junior class­ es paraded around the gym in their costumes to the scary strains of the “Monster Mash”. The winners of that division were: Juniors - scariest, Jeffery Lewis; original, Chauncey Carter; funni­ est, Bryce Toll; best couple, Chris­ tina Black and April Van Amers- foort. Seniors - scariest, Joe Fraser; original, Thomas Schroecker; funn­ iest, Jeff Josling; best couple, Karen Bromley and Charlene Hul- zebos. Prizes were handed out by the judges from the Students’ Council: John Ramirez, president; Jodee Medd, vice-president; April Brom­ ley, secretary; Stephanie Lentz, treasurer. Parties followed in the classrooms.
