Brussels Bulls still on top with 5 wins out of 8 The Brussels Bulls continue to surprise in their maiden year of Jr. C. Hockey improving their record to five wins, one loss, and two ties after weekend action. A week ago Friday the Bulls scored eight first period goals enroute to a 14-1 romp over the visiting Mount Forest Patriots. Ron Strome notched the hat trick with J. C. Hewitt, Kevin Talsma, Brett Martin and Marty Rutledge adding Brussels Pre-Novice not discouraged by slow start at Clinton The Brussels Pre-Novice team travelled to Clinton for their first game of the new season. It started out to be a slow start for the Brussels team as Clinton scored all the goals in the first two periods. With a lot of hard work and determination the Brussels team finally made it on the score board. Singles went to Kevin DeJong, Andrew Henderson, and Ryan Gallaher while Corey McKee, Andrew Weber, DeJong and Rut­ ledge chipped in with three assists a piece. Murray Foxton was thwar­ ted in his shutout bid by a Mount Forest goal with under five minutes remaining in the contest. The Bulls travelled to Mount Forest the following night for the Patriot’s home opener and in one of natures ironic twists were outscor- Fischer. Next it was Justin Rut­ tan’s turn from Andy Van Beek and Chris Coulter. Brussels final goal of this game was notched by Joel Kellington on passes from Andy Van Beek and Mathew McLellan. Considering two players on the Clinton team got all their goals, this Brussels team did not seem the least bit discouraged when the score ended 16-3. Until November 15,1989 you can receive ed, outhustled, outskated, out- everything to the tune of 10-0. Mount Forest fired five powerplay and one shorthanded goal to send Brussels home with their first set back of the year. Friday night the Bulls skated into Walkerton and returned home with a 7-4 victory. Marty Rutledge quickly opened the scoring at 1:26 on a setup from Steve Vandendool. Walkerton replied 25 seconds later but Brussels returned the favour when Corey McKee scored his first, as a Bull, 30 seconds later on passes from Brett Martin and Kevin DeJong. Craig King and Rutledge combined to set up a Steve Fritz shorthanded tally be­ fore Walkerton ended the first period scoring with a goal at 19:35. The Bulls scored four unanswer­ ed goals in the second period, three by Rutledge and one by DeJong for a commanding 7-2 lead after two periods. Walkerton scored the only two goals of the third period to end the contest 7-4. Murray Foxton went the distance in goal for his fifth win of the season. Sunday afternoon the Bulls blew a two-goal lead and skated to a 3-3 tie with the visiting Hanover Bar­ ons. Ron Strome opened the scor­ ing four minutes into the game on a pass from Corey McKee. A short- handed Hanover effort tied the score before Kevin DeJong from Jeff Coulter and Dwaine Nicholls broke the tie with 27 seconds remaining in the first period action. The game remained 2-1 until midway through the third when J. C. Hewitt increased the lead to 3-1. Hanover cut the margin 20 seconds later and scored the equalizer with three minutes remaining.
