The Crusaders romped to an easy 9-3 win. Crusaders conquer after loss On Friday night the Crusaders travelled to Arthur to face the Tigers of Arthur. The Crusaders got off to a good start scoring the first two goals of the game with Ken Cousins getting the first one from Rob Cardiff and Dave Stephenson and the second scored by Tim Fritz from Brian Ten Pas and Jeff Espensen. Arthur then scored four goals in a row to take a 4-2 lead at one point. Troy Pocaluyko scored from Tim Fritz and Brian Ten Pas before the period ended to bring the Crusaders within one goal 4-3. The Crusaders took the lead 5-4 with goals from Kevin McArter with assists going to Dave Mont­ gomery and Jeff Espensen and the go-ahead goal scored by Ken Cousins unassisted. Arthur tied the score before the period ended at 5-5. Kevin Deitner’s unassisted goal put the Crusaders ahead two minutes into the third period. Arthur then scored three unan­ swered goals to win the game 8-6. On Saturday night the Crusaders hosted the Seaforth Seahawks. The fourth place couple were fourth in World.” While the bronze medal at this past competition does not advance them, Mrs. Wheeler says that it gives them a “boost in that the judges remember them.” Mr. Wheeler and Ms. Menzies also competed in the four’s compe­ tition at Skate Canada, which teams two pairs. Out of four groups, they placed second. Tim Fritz added another goal at the 18-min- ute mark with asissts going to Ken Higgins and Troy Pocaluyko to give the team a 2-0 lead after one period. Dave Montgomery started the scoring in the second period on a pass from Kevin Deitner. Three minutes later Rob Cardiff added an unassisted goal, kevin Deitner scored then half a minute later on a set-up from Dave Montgomery and Kevin McArter. Seaforth scored the next goal when Bill Dale scored and John Dale getting the assist to break the shut-out. Dave Montgomery scored an unassisted goal at the 11 minute mark. Then four minutes later Dave set up Kevin Deitner for his second goal of the game. The Crusaders lead 7-1 after two peri­ ods of play. Tim Fritz opened the scoring in the third period with asissts going to Ken Cousins and Brian Camp­ bell. At the eight-minute mark Troy Pocaluyko scored the Crusaders last goal of the contest with asissts from Tim Fritz and Brian Ten Pas. Seaforth scored two more goals before the game ended to make the final score 9-3 for the Crusaders. Mrs. Wheeler stated that they were very happy with this achieve­ ment. “We weren’t sure how they’d come out on this one. The pair they skated with were on tour and they only put the routine together last week,” she says. Mr. Wheeler and Ms. Menzies went straight to the Cornwall competition from the American International contest where they placed fourth. The pair will be leaving to tour with the Champions on Ice, which Mr. W’heeler’s sister Carol is also with, as soon as Ms. Menzies competes in the singles competi­ tion at Sectionals. The pair is not required to compete at the section­ als due to their record, according to Mrs. Wheeler. I a a a Seaforth proved not to be wel­ coming hosts for the Brussels Midgets Oct. 24 when they took a 9-5 victory from their guests in WOAA Midget hockey action. Brussels took an early lead when Greg Mulvey scored with 13:54 to play in the first period from Andrew McCutcheon. Barely a minute later Scott Bremner scored an unassisted goal to widen the lead but Seaforth quickly bounced back to take the lead. Goals at 8:56, 6:54 and 2:54 gave Seaforth the lead before Tom Cull scored from Ron Stevenson to tie the score at the end of the first. The downfall for Brussels came in the second when they failed to score a goal while Seaforth bunch­ ed three goals together in the middle of the period. Seaforth added two more goals early in the third to make it 8-3 before Greg Mulvey scored from Shawn Jacklin with 10:43 left to move Brussels closer. It took Scott Johnston only 16 seconds to get another one back with Scott Bremner assisting.
