On Wednesday, October 18, the Huron Women Teachers’ Associa tion will convene its Annual Fall Banquet, at Brussels Community Centre at 6 p.m. Business meeting will begin at 4:45 p.m. sharp. President Georgina Reynolds calls this banquet, “one of the highlights of the year for the elementary staff of the Huron County Board of Education. The evening will be that much more exciting in light of the large number of new female teachers hired who will be guests-of-honour for the evening.’’ The guest speaker for the Fall Banquet will be Anne Wilson, who is the Senior Vice-President of the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario, the provincial organization which represents 33,000 female teachers in Ontario. Anne performs the duties of public relations for the President for one year, after which time she will assume all the duties as President of F.W.T.A.O. Anne brings 27 years of experience and impressive qualifications with her to the podium. Part of the evening’s celebration will focus on the presentation of 25-year-pins to seven members of the teaching staff: Dawn Szarek, Wingham; Yvonne Martin, Grey; Mary Moffatt, LRC; Shirley Lyons, Walton; Idella Wilson, Brussels; Joan Perrie, Exeter and Done|da Charter, Blyth. Acting in a dual role for the evening is Florence Keillor, who is Past-President as well as being newly elected Director of Region One of the F.W.T.A.O. Ila Mathers will represent the provincial Status Committee. Both women are on staff or the Huron County Board. President Georgina calls the banquet a “blending of the present teaching, administrative, super visory and trustee staffs with the 32 new hirings for the upcoming school year.’’ The large number of teacher’s who may be beginning teaching or rejoining teaching fol lows a provincial trend in indicating an up-swing in teacher demand and the resulting teacher shortage. President Georgina likes to refer to the Fall Banquet as “a harmonious blending of the Huron County Board of Education elementary staff, women teachers in particular, with the trustee and supervisory staffs”. theme of WMS Members of the Women’s Mis sionary Society of Knox Church met at the home of Eleanor Stevenson for the October meeting.
