The Citizen, 1989-10-18, Page 10PAGE 10. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1989. Minister’s Study Every person plays a part BY REV. CAROLYN McAVOY MELVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, BRUSSELS KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BELGRAVE ....Well folks, this is ‘Common- Terry’ back with you now in the third period reporting live. What a game this has been, listen to the fans. They are really with the team tonight, responding to every note the organist plays. ‘Coach Facilita tor’ really has his team flying tonight. Real team work. ...There’s ‘Faceoff’ lining up his mates ‘Defender’ and ‘Handler’. There’s ‘Handler’ dipsydoodlin’ up the ice. ‘Smash’ has taken out the only defenceman and ... 'oops, what’s that? A penalty for ‘Smash’? I don’t know folks, looked clean to me. ...Now the ‘Coach Facilitator’ has talked his team down, and he’s sent out ‘Short’ and ‘Handed’ to kill off the penalty. Oh, what a save by ‘Puckstop’! He just reached out Right to Life meets The October meeting for Wing ham Right to Life was held at the home of Ed and Kelly Skinn. Devotions and meditation were lead by Rev. John Vaudry. Rev. Vaudry read Psalm 103, the Psalm of Thanksgiving. He suggested that people should be thankful for the gift of life itself and always believe in the sanctity of life. Next they should be grateful for the gift of new life in Jesus Christ. He reminded those present that God can forgive any sin. Lastly people must remember that God calls them to serve Him, to be his co-worker. President Jim Bakelaar welcom ed all members. All prepartions for a booth at the Teeswater Fair were reported completed. Members were reminded to continue writing. letters to their members of Parlia ment requesting a law that protects all babies from the time of concep tion. They were informed by Cam paign Life Coalition that there were about 32,619 reported abortions in Ontario in 1987. That is 20.8 abortions for every 100 live births. A sanctity of life group called “Nurses for Life’’ has asked mem bers to inform any nurses, nursing assistants, orderlies or retired medical workers that they are seeking new members. The cost is $10 per year and $5 per year for students. Anyone interested can write to 254 Ancaster Ave., Ottawa K2B 5B4. The possibility of holding an Ecumenical prayer vigil was dis cussed. Rev. Vaudry will lead the planning committee. and grabbed the puck from the top right hand corner. What reflexes, and he saw the shot all the way. ...Some tense action in our end as ‘Defender’ has broken his stick. He’ll have to play without one unless... yes! ‘Stickler’ was alert behind the bench and grabbed another one passing it to ‘Defen der’ as he skated by the bench. Could have been tense. ... There goes ‘Breakaway’ up the right wing, but he’s checked. Now a new line comes out. ‘Play maker’ shoots it in. Fearless ‘Corn ers’ is in after it. He digs it out to ‘Playmaker’, back to ‘Defender’ up to ‘Playmaker’ ... through some legs to ‘Touch’ in front of the net. He fakes a shot, then shoots .........HE SCOOORES!!! There’s captain ‘Way t’ go buddy’ out on the ice to congratulate his team mates. That’ll do it folks. We win. That’s it from ‘commen Terry’ now we go to the booth to hear from ‘Interpre Ted’. Well thanks Terry. What a game tonight. Real teamwork. And I’ll tell you folks, lots more teamwork than you see on the ice. Don’t forget all the people behind the scenes: The managers discerning skills and putting a team together. The administrators organizing the finances. The coaching staff with strategies and teaching methods. The equipment people, making sure everything is there and ready. The back-up players who sit on the bench keeping ‘up’ psychologi cally. And th? crowds. WHEN ALL THESE PARTS OF THE TEAM ARE WORKING TOGETHER THEN YOU GET A GAME LIKE TONIGHT. Not like that game last week. Everything was backwards. The The family of Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Bauer would like to wish them a Happy 25th Anniversary. Mervyn and Donna were married Novem ber 14, 1964. A celebration will be held in Brussels November 4,1989. Love from Kim, Don, Kyle, Kerry, Kelly P.S. I arrived just in time for your party Grandma and Grandpa. Love Kyle ANTHONY LAWLOR Love from Mom and Dad and Grandpa and Grandpa Lawlor October 19 managers had chosen the wrong bunch of guys to play the opposi tion. The strategies they tried were all a flop! Everyone was doing someone else’s job! ‘Corners’ was staying at centre ice. ‘Playmaker’ was back in his own zone. ‘Smash’ and ‘Checker’ were trying to score goals and ‘Touch’ spent most of the game in the penalty box. ‘Short’ and ‘Handed’ were in a pout about only playing defensive roles and wanted to be on a scoring line. ‘Breakaway’ was trying to do it all Captain ‘Way t’ go buddy’ was either yelling at the refs or sitting grumpily on the bench. Coach ‘Facilitator’ threw his hands in the air and left the arena in the second period. WHAT A TERRIBLE GAME ... WHAT A BUNCH OF INDIVIDUALS. We can look at humanity sort of like God’s ‘hockey team’. All of us have different skills and abilities, and we all have a part to play. We need to each play our own part so our team WORKS. Sometimes we get jealous of the flashy players. We think our role is boring and unimportant. But every person plays a part. Or it doesn’t work. We lose. Who are you? What is your part? Are you ready to play when you get the nod? Colin and Gail Howes, R.R. #3, Goderich are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lorelee Ann to Corporal Dennis James Schneider, son of James and Dorothy Schneider, Goder ich.
