Farm, Residential, Auto, Commercial & Liability “When you become a policy holder, you become a share holder” Head office - Dungannon Immunization provides protection Every year in Canada, many people die of influenza or what is commonly called the flu. It is particularly dangerous to those in high risk categories, including anyone over 65, and those with diabetes or other chronic medical conditions. These deaths need not occur. Immunization with flue vac cine in September or October can provide protection. Influenza is an extremely conta gious respiratory disease which spreads in epidemic force every winter. Although other viruses like the common cold may cause similar symptoms, true influenza can be life threatening. The real danger with flu is the complications that can arise when the body’s resis tance is weakened. Bacterial pneumonia is the most common complication and is particularly dangerous in the elderly. Viral pneumonia, kidney failure, and nervous system disorders can prove fatal as well. Influenza can be prevented. Flu vaccine provides a safe and effec tive method of protecting those people at greatest risk, and can provide up to 90 per cent protection against true influenza. However, it won’t protect you from the common cold or any of those other viruses that have symptoms similar to influenza. So if you want to avoid the flu this year then a visit to your doctor in September or October for an annual flue vaccination is the way to play it safe. If you or someone you know is over 65 or has a chronic medical condition, consider getting a flu shot. It could save a life! <35 HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION OF ONTARIO
