Snells celebrate anniversary 50 years together Gene and Alvin Snell of Blyth were surrounded by family and friends Sunday, September 24 when their 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated with an open house at the Blyth United Church. Communion service held at Blyth United Church Greeters for the communion service at Blyth United Church, October 1, were Laurie Scott and David Webster. Ushers were Marie Toll, Randy, Loma and Cathy Fraser. During the children’s story, Rev. Blyth People June Foran, her husband Ron and June’s guide dog Buddy raised $426 when they took part in the Walk-a-Dog-a-thon in Goderich Sunday. The Forans were among those who raised money by com pleting the six-mile route. The money goes through local Lions clubs to help support the training of guide dogs like Buddy for those who need the help of a dog to get around. Blyth Women’s Institute visited Huron County Museum for their September meeting. Yvonne Cronyn and Debbie Craig will be 4H leaders for club “Good Foods Fast’’. The October meeting is Thursday at 8 p.m. A speaker will give tips on recycling. Ramirez explained that the bread and grape juice were symbols of the body and blood of Christ. He told the children how Jesus came down from heaven so that we may feed upon Him. He led the children in singing “Jesus Loves Me’’. Deanna Snell was in charge of Junior Congregation. The senior choir sang “In My Heart There Rings a Melody’’ accompanied by Mrs. Phylis Boak. The theme of the sermon was “Jesus the Living Bread from Above’’ based on the scripture reading John 6 (51-58). In verse 53 Jesus said “Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no life in yourselves.” Rev. Ramirez said that Jesus was speaking in metaphors using ma terial symbols while telling spiri tual truths. This type of teaching was confusing especially to the religious leaders as they knew Jesus only as the son of Mary and Joseph, the carpenter. Jesus was especially speaking to his disciples, who by this time had placed their trust in Him and hungered for spiritual teaching. The spiritual food which Christ offers us has power to release us from the bondage of sin. No matter who we are, we sometimes suffer Continued on page 23 Decorations of purple and white accented with golden arrange ments of yellow roses and carna tions provided a colourful setting in the Blyth United Church basement for the occasion of the 50th wedding anniversary of Alvin and Gene Snell.
