Walton house finds new home near Auburn
It’s been a busy summer for one
Walton area farmer Keith Wilbee
who holds a full time job with
Hensall Co-Op and plays for dances
on weekends. It doesn’t leave a lot
of time for other projects but the
family decided to build a new house
and last week had the old one taken
away on wheels.
It’s not quite as simple on the
farm as it is is in town where you
can sell and move io a new lot. The
Wilbee’s old house is on a separate
lot from the farm but they wanted
to keep their new house on the
same lot so they built in a more
central location in front of the other
house. The old house was in a poor
location with the lane on one side,
the well on the other, so to renovate
and build onto it was going to prove
difficult.
Since the Wilbees started the
new house there had been a
number of people in wanting to
buy sub-flooring, stairs, glass and
bannisters from the old house.
They also had over a dozen people
interested in buying the house and
moving it to a new lot. Don Young
of Auburn was the most serious.
The Youngs had a fire in the spring
and needed a house so the Wilbees
sold it as a complete house to be
moved to a new foundation. They
also discovered the floor of the
house is not at the same level as the
walls and was sitting on a double
foundation, apparently some hous
es were built that way years ago.
It’s a high house and required the
hydro wires to be taken down so it
was expensive to move that dis
tance. There have been so many
changes to this farm in the last 10
years. The Wilbees have to look at
a picture of the office wall to
remember what the farm once
looked like in the 70’s.
Moving day
Part of Walton moved to Auburn last week when a house from the farm of Keith Wilbee near Walton
was moved to the farm of Don Young, northwest of Auburn. The Wilbees had recently built a new
house. The Youngs lost their house earlier this year to fire. It kept Ontario Hydro crews busy moving
electrical wires as here at the edge of Blyth, to make the move possible.
