Squirts Tri-County Champs
On September 4, the Walton
Squirt girls defeated Listowel 13-4
making Walton the TriCounty “A”
Champs of their division.
They put Listowel out in the first
two games, in a best two out of
three series, just as they defeated
Seaforth ‘A’ two games straight.
There was one loss in all the play
off games by Walton which was to
Seaforth ‘B’, with a score of 19-17.
Throughout the entire season, this
was the only loss the girls had.
They were on top all the way and
held onto it right to the end.

District Hospital did themselves
proud in the provincial examination
for RNA graduates.
The students travelled to London
to write the provincial examination
on June 23 and word has been
received only recently that of the 32
schools in the province writing the
exam, the Wingham class placed
second.
game included a home run by
Heather Blake, a triple by Colleen
Collins and some outstanding

and Marie Cronyn. Heather
Blake’s pitching contributed great
ly as well to the team’s win.
The Walton Squirt Girls played
together as a team and supported
each other all the way. This was the
biggest contribution to their wins.
East Wawanosh Road Superin
tendent Ralph Campbell told Coun
cil at their meeting of September 5
that the landfill site has become
overrun with used tires. This is due
to the influx of tires from residents
of Tumberry Township who own
property in East Wawanosh as
Turnberry began charging $5 a tire
last month.
Council felt that people buying
new tires for vehicles shouldn’t be
penalized so therefore agreed to a
two-tire limit at the East Wawa
nosh landfill site. A fee of $5 will be
added for each tire thereafter.
District Environmental Officer
John Earl noted that while tires do
not present a contamination ha
zard, it is illegal to dispose of them
anywhere other than a certified
landfill site. Thus anyone disagree
ing with the charge imposed will
have to store their tires on their
own property.
Mr. Campbell also informed
Council that many cemetery stones
and monuments at the Westfield
and Deacon Cemeteries are ready
to topple. He noted that if anyone./
were to be injured by a falling
monument the Township would be
liable.
Council agreed to notify the
Ministry of Culture and Communi
ations regarding the problem and
seek estimates for repairs from
local monument dealers.
After receiving comments about
barking dogs in Belgrave, Clerk-
l reasurer Winona Thompson was
instructed to send a letter to a
village resident explaining that the
residential area is not approved for
a dog kennel, as it contravenes with
the zoning by-law regarding home
business. The letter also stated that
the dogs must go in 30 days. It was
noted that in a residential zoning
only two dogs per household are
permissible.
A public meeting will be held on
October 3 to discuss the Wingham
sewage lagoon and the proposed
re-zoning amendment to allow for
the establishment of a trailer park
and recreational vehicle camp
ground.
Several farmers attended the
meeting last month to object to the
proposal and Council has decided
to defer discussion until the Octo
ber meeting.
Council agreed that Councillor
Jim Hunter and Reeve Ernie Snell
should attend the seminar in
Vanastra on September 27. The
purpose of this seminar is to assist
with study and goal of identifying
and developing policy options
which urban and rural municipali
ties might apply in response to
agricultural related community
change. The research will focus on
what this change means to local
municipalities and how people may
react through local planning and
development.
Building permits were issued to
Daniel LeKomte for a workshop,
Bill Dunn for a residence, and
Albert Hessels for a residence.
Council approved a severance
application for Charles Krohn of
Part Lot 37 on Con. 14.
Grants were approved for the
Huron Ploughman’s Assocation for
$100 and Essex County Food
Reflief for $100.
