Phone 887-9487 Church celebrates anniversary Knox Presbyterian Church in Belgrave celebrated its 125th Anni versary Sunday, September 17. Knox began its history in 1864 when it was a mission station. There was a full congregation on Sunday, including visiting mem bers of Melville Presbyterian Church in Brussels. Knox members were particularly happy to have long time member Agnes Young blutt at worship. Cheryl Cronin sang two songs, accompanied by Knox organist Hazel Dalrymple. They were lovely songs, adding much to the worship, especially the old favourite “The Holy City’’ which seemed to speak well of the rejoicing in heaven when one who FRIDAY & SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL Ribs & Kraut Served from 5:00-8:00 p.m. PHONE FOR TAKE-OUT THEBLYTHINN 523-9381 is lost is saved. Knox minister Rev. Carolyn Mc Avoy spoke on Hosea 4 and Luke 15. The sermon was entitled “I’ve got good news and bad news”. The bad news focused on how we often fail to acknowledge God. We even forget him. Left on our own, we are lost. But the joyous good news is that God seeks out the sinners and longs to save us. Like the shepherd searching for the lost lamb or the woman searching for a lost coin so our loving God searches us out and wants us to be saved. The service was followed by a delicious lunch at the town hall. Artistic director Martha Henry has announced that The Grand Theatre has accepted a unique opportunity to present Rod Beattie in the final play in Dan Needles’ Winfield trilogy, “Wingfield’s Folly”. Running March 20 to April 14, 1990, “Wingfield’s Folly” re places “Shirley Valentine” as the fifth play in The Grand’s 1989/90 season. London and area residents will enjoy the first performances of “Winfield’s Folly” in Eastern Canada. “Wingfield’s Folly” chronicles the continuing adventures of city stockbroker Walt Wingfield, whose determination to live a country life has triumphed over encounters with sick poultry, recalcitrant hors es, would-be developers and an People Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cook of Belgrave celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 17. Old friends from Persephone Township return in this engaging conclusion to a thoroughly Cana dian tale. Mr. Beattie delighted capacity audiences last season with his remarkable performances in “Wingfield’s Progress” and “Let ter From Wingfield Farm”. Both shows have toured Canada exten sively, to great acclaim, and critics have praised Mr. Beattie’s aston ishing command of the myriad characters he portrays. Once again the stage is filled with character brought to life by his tour-de-force performance. Commented Mrs. Henry: “Al though we were sorry to lose the promised right to present ‘Shirley Valentine’, the unexpected arrival of the third play in the Wingfield Cycle at such an opportune time has more than compensated for the necessity to change our plans. All of us who are enraptured with Mr. Beattie’s brilliant performances (and that now seems to include just about the whole of Canada) are eagerly anticipating the last epi sode of Walt in Persephone Town ship and the major change coming up in his life.” SISSON-SMITH Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith of Ethel and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Sisson of Harriston are proud to announce the engagement of their children, Darlene and Keith.
