With the deadline for the start of construction on the addition to Memorial Hall approaching, nego­ tiations to an operating agreement between the village and Blyth Centre for the Arts had still not begun as of Wednsday night’s Blyth council meeting. The agreement will govern who will pay what when the new addition to Memorial Hall is com­ pleted, linking the Hall with the Centre’s administration building (the old bank). “It’s something that should be done properly and fairly for all concerned,” Reeve Albert Wasson said. Reeve Wasson said it would be unfair to the Festival to ask it to pay according to people use but on the other hand it would be unfair if the Festival had to pay things like the utilities bill only three months a year. “These are things people have to think about and come up with a fair way of doing it,” he said. The Reeve suggested the village hire a lawyer to help negotiate the agreement. They were also shown the Blue Jay’s Press Box and also saw staff laying astro turf ready for the ball game on Friday night. It takes 8 hours to lay the astro turf and it is all zippered together. The third annual Brown picnic, decendants of Ephriam and Annie Brown, originally of Hullett Town­ ship, was held on September 3 at the Lions Park in Blyth with 34 present from Toronto, Burlington, London, Arkona, Kettle Point, Seaforth, Goderich, Clinton and Blyth. Blyth Swinging Seniors resumes again on Wednesday, September 27 in Memorial Hall starting with a pot luck dinner at 12 noon followed by a short business period, then cards and crokinole after. Come and bring a friend as all seniors are welcome. It’s a sure sign of fall: Monday night euchre parties begin again at Blyth Memorial Hall next Monday, September 25 at 8 p.m. As usual, everyone is invited to come and take part.
