Phone 523-4360 UCW plans bazaar The Londesboro and District Lions started off their 89-90 year with their first meeting at Londes­ boro Community Hall on Septem­ ber 7 with President Lion Ian Hulley conducting the meeting. Upcoming events and projects were discussed. A motion was passed, that due to low current market value and difficulties in marketing of newspapers, the Londesboro Lions will cease the monthly pickup. The last pickup of newspapers will be Saturday October 7. Watch for further information in your local news­ paper. The Londesboro Lions would like to thank residents of Auburn, Blyth, Clinton and Londesboro for their support of this and other community projects and would encourage all residents to support their municipality in recycling ef­ forts. The Burns U.C.W. meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 6 in Londesboro United Church with 16 members present. Gay Salverda opened the meet­ ing with a reading. Hymn 504 was sung accompanied by Ida Leiper on the piano. Ida Salverda read the scripture Psalm 23. Rene Snell gave a reading, “God cares for his own.’’ Ida Leiper led in prayer followed by hymn 376. Gladys Leiper and Ramona Jamieson gave the readings. Hymns 266 and 589 were sung. Gladys Leiper closed S. School sells mugs Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Sept. 10 were Bob and Sylvia Trick. Ushers were Ken Armstrong, Allan Bosman, Rick Konarski and Neil Salverda. Senior Choir practice is 10:30 a.m., Sunday, September 17. Bible Study is Friday, Sept. 15 at 1:15 at the Snihurs. Junior Youth Group meets Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the church for games and devotion. The senior choir anthem was sung. The sermon was “I am the good Shepherd”, Part 4 in the series the ‘I Am’ sayings of with prayer. Renee Snell conducted the busi­ ness and gave a reading. Roll call was answered with a Bible verse. The minutes of the last meeting were read. The treasurer’s report was given by Gay Salverda. A thank you card was received from Ray and Joan Hoggarth. Plans were made for the bazaar and tea to be held on Oct. 18. Hazel Reid reported that cookies and sugar had been purchased for Bible School. Renee Snell closed with prayer. Jesus”.
