attracts people with its threshing demon
stration, the shingle saw demonstration
where cedar shingles are made, it’s
antique tractors, music and church service.
It was held on August 12 and 13 this year.
•The oldest steam show in Southern
Ontario during the middle of August is the
Western Ontario Steam Threshers show
which has been held in Bridgden for 32
years. About 13 large steam engines are on
display here along with three buildings full
of crafts. There are many wood demonstra
tions including a planing mill, a saw mill
and a veneer mill which are all run by the
steam engines. A good display of steam
machine plowing can be witnessed here
along with miniature steam trains for the
children to ride in. Every day at five, there
is the parade of power which displays the
huge steam machines and at three every
day there is a parade for the antique cars.
•The largest show of antique tractors,
automobiles and machinery is the Ontario
Steam and Antique Preservers show in
Milton. Over 25,000 people attend this
event which features a threshing competi
tion where men vie for the title of fastest
thresher. This show also concentrates on a
particular brand of tractor every year.
•On at the same time as the Milton show
is the Mitchell Pioneer and Hobby exhibi
tion which is combined with the fall fair in
Mitchell. There is a big tractor pull at this
event which has old tractors and souped-up
tractors competing in their specific classes.
There is also a shingle mill and sawmill
working with wood at the event.
•The last show of the vacation season in
Southern Ontario is the Huron Pioneer
Thresher’s Reunion held in Blyth on the
first weekend after Labour Day. Blyth is
especially know for its friendliness, so
many people camp over for the weekend
and socialize with the locals and the
regular visitors of the event. Between
chats, there are many displays to see such
is a sawmill demonstration, a threshing
lemonstration, an area full of crafts, over
ten huge steam engines burning with
