Phone 887-6677 Walton Landscape club visits Kitchener nursery The 4-H Club of Walton I, “Let’s Landscape” had its achievement day on August 21. The “Land Lubbers” made a trip to Arobe Nursery in Kitchener. Arobe Nursery specializes in out­ door landscaping products and plants with some indoor plants and craft supplies available. A tour of the grounds was made noting some of the more interesting features. One of these was an evergreen shaped as a large basket with a handle, another was a large Walton Midget girls compete for WO A A title This past summer the Walton Ball Park has been a busy place of activities for the teams playing during the season, some of the teams have been eliminated, but the Midget girls and Squirt girls are still in the playoffs. The Midget girls who have done well all season, were in the Tri-County series defeating Shak­ espeare two out of three games recently. Now they are in the W.O.A.A. where they are compet­ ing with Tiverton, have won one game, will return this Tuesday evergreen cut in a spiral fashion. A Arobe Nursery also carries most of the required landscaping products from patio stones to mulches and fertilizers. An interesting feature noted by the group was the fact that Arboe’s provides landscaping planning. From Arobe's Nursery the mem­ bers visited Belgian Nursery which specializes in tropicals. From there the group went out for lunch. The day was finished off with a shopp­ ing trip to a mall. night for the second game, hoping to win three out of five in this series. They participate in a tourna­ ment in Seaforth on September 8, 9, and 10. $ On Saturday, Ruthie Thamer, coach of theMidget team entertain­ ed the girls to a barbecue. The afternoon was spent playing volley­ ball and lawn darts. The Squirt girls are still playing and have done well, but at press time the last game score was unavailable. Hope to have it for next week. Obituaries JOHN NORMAN McDOWELL Norman McDowell of Auburn died August 19, 1989 at Wingham and District Hospital. He was 82 years of age. He was born in East Wawanosh township where he farmed until his retirement to Auburn. He was a member of Auburn United Church. He married the former Viola M. Jr. Farmers honour rural leaders The Huron County Junior Farm­ ers are sponsoring an Agri-Food Week Dinner to recognize Huron County’s rural leaders and agricul­ tural success. ‘Huron County: An Agricultural Leader III’ will be held Monday, October 2, at 7 p.m. in the Clinton Legion. The evening is planned to celebrate Agri-Food Week, recog­ nize agriculture in Huron County and honour local people for their outstanding leadership and contri­ butions to the rural community and agriculture in Huron County. Reci­ pients will receive a Rural Leader­ ship Award. Along with the dinner and award presentations various guest speakers will be talking about various aspects of Agri-Busi­ ness. The Huron County Junior Farm­ ers will welcome nominations for the Rural Leadership Awards from individuals or groups until Sep­ tember 20. Surviving him are his son Gerald, and his wife Carol McDowell, RR 1, Belgrave and his daughter Gwen and her husband Art Laidlaw, Wingham as well as six grandchildren and two great­ grandchildren. The funeral service was held Tuesday, August 22, 1989 from the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth with Rev. David Snihur of Knox United Church, Auburn officiating. Inter­ ment was in Ball’s Cemetery, Serving as pallbearers were Garth Walden, Lloyd McDowell, John McDowell, Sandy Andrews, Arnold Cook and Bill Seers. Flowerbearers were Wayne and Ron McDowell and Nathan Laid­ law. Born in Romney Township, Kent County, England, Henry Charles Norman Edwards spent his life farming. He was currently residing at Geri-Care Nursing Home in Harriston. Mr. Edwards is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Dorothy Edwards of Staffa. He is lovingly remembered by his nephew Eric Edwards of Holstein in addition to several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Edwards and two sisters, Edith Debbley and Mabel England. Mr. Edwards rested at the Betts Funeral Home in Gorrie until the funeral service, which took place at 10 a.m. on August 23. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Wheatley.
